February 2019 weight loss buds

Recommended Posts

I returned to work yesterday. I just had my sleeve last Monday (my Dr would be livid but he didn’t specifically instruct me of how much time to take off). It was seriously a rough day but today, a little better. Sticking to my meal plan was far more harder being at work than I anticipated. I mentally give myself a pep talk to stay the course even though anything more than a few gulps would be painful. Any suggestions/tricks for those of you further postop with ‘keeping it real’ and keeping on track?

Surgery done.

Well, I had surgery on Monday and it went well. I had a small hiatal hernia repaired. I'm in a world of hurt. This by far is the worst surgery I've ever had--most painful. I'm going through some serious buyers remorse, like wtf did I do to myself?

I can barely take care of myself, so my daughter got up and gave me pain medicine and crushed my anti-nausea meds.

Today is day three of clear liquid only. Still a bit parched. Good luck to all the new surgeries coming up.

I understand your pain. It gets better day by day, hang in there.

I felt the same way for sure. I didn't have a repair but I was hurting really bad and was in the hospital for 4 days. I definitely thought wtf did I do? Mind you, this was my first ever surgery. Like star said though, each day gets better in some way or another, something hurts less, something gets easier. I'm 2 weeks, 3 days out and I almost feel normal again. I still have some pain though, nothing compared to day 3 though. I wish you a speedy recovery.

It will be worth. Remember it hurts to be beautiful! And just think how beautiful you’ll be after this. Maybe I should say beautiful you’ll feel. Everything comes at a price. You’ll make it!
Just can’t believe some surgeons send people home when they are not ready!!

This is the only surgery I’ve ever had before I went in feeling good and came out feeling bad. Most surgeries I have a problem and then I come out feeling good on the other side. Or with some kind of cosmetic improvements. This one is definitely tough but hopefully worth it in the long run. I was getting scared about dehydration but I have more under control now. Things get better day by day!!!

I felt good after surgery. I did a enhanced recovery protocol before I drank 32oz of Gatorade night before surgery and 32 oz a couple hour before surgery. I felt pretty good because of that.
You’ll feel better day by day and when the scale moves even better

Wow, most people can't have anything after midnight before surgery.

I was NPO after midnight. Got up at 5 am and drove 3 hours to the hospital where I was alone until I was released. Husband drove me home so my car is sitting in the hospital parking lot 3 hours away from home!

I know it’s different but it worked. I had all those electrolytes in my system. The only problem was that I held a lot of fluids like 13 lbs of extra weight. It took three weeks to get rid of that

Wow. I was 5 minutes from home. My husband stayed most of the time. Went home for a shower. I was there 3 days. I was lucky.

I had the same enhanced recovery and had to drink a Gatorade type drink the morning of surgery along with a nausea medicine.

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

That sounds awesome. I'll have to check that out thanks!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
