Clothing while you're losing weight

Recommended Posts

I wore my baggy clothes for months and months. I just recently started buying new clothes now that I am getting closer to my goal weight. I went down 3 shirt sizes and five pant sizes. So yeah, I was walking around in some pretty loose clothing for awhile. I just tucked in all of my shirts to make them look better and not like a gown.

I hate to waste money and clothes are about the worst investment you can make if you aren’t planning to use them for a long time. That $20 shirt is worth about 0.50 after you remove the tags. I just couldn’t justify buying clothes I’d wear a couple of months and then ditch.

It never really bothered me to wear loose clothing. I looked awkward, I am sure. But one of the nice things about getting older is I care less and less what others think of me with each passing year. :)

Also.. right now is the perfect time to hit up the clearance racks.. lots of pants, sweats, leggings, and sweaters on sale for 60-75% off.

I shop Facebook marketplace a lot. Also, thrift stores. Belts are also helpful. I even bought a pair of suspenders, just in case! 😂 I also have bought WAY more leggings than I used to. And I asked for a lot of gift cards for Christmas, since my size changes. I’ve also taken old clothes to clothes mentor, a local resale shop, so that may be an option as well.

Still wearing my same sweatsuit and sweaters wardrobes dang it! Good news the panties I bought accidently at Wally World over a year ago that were too small now fit, I am on the verge of undergrowing some of my bras, and I think my legs are starting to look less like elephant foot umberella holders, and , dare it say it? curves and definition like normal ladies, rump starting to flatten out but belly looks balloon air has leaking out of, rather blobby and flaccid. And my waist is inching smaller, oh I may never make 36-24-36 but maybe 40-27-38? that was in my prime, maybe 20 years old, oh being alive is reward itself, but I would like to be known or spoke of, by my name instead of so-and-so's fat whatever, be it mom, grandmom or friend. And I plan to be more decisive instead of appeasing everybody. The roadway of life is littered with flat squirrels who failed to make a decision. And when I replace clothing it will be in pastels, bright shades, maybe polka dots or plaidsn tired of retiring into the background of life. I am going to be so vibrant I shall vibrate!

I got thru my rapid loss phase with some wrap dresses and tops from eShakti . I could wear them for 8-10 size changes. I also would only buy the bare minimum for a season. I will say that at some point I was feeling very frumpy at the 50 lbs loss mark and went shopping. It was glorious and I’d even buy too tight cause I knew in a few weeks it wouldn’t be.

I actually have clothes from four different sizes of me as a result of previous diets that worked temporarily, before I gained all the weight back. So, I have wardrobe options on the way down. (My bypass is in February 2019.) I've decided that I will go out and treat myself to a new wardrobe once I'm at or near my goal weight.

Goodwill is my best friend. Over the past 10 years I’ve lost 60 pounds, gained it back and then some. I had RNY 12-3-18 and look forward to losing and going down in sizes. Our Goodwill offers 99 cent clothes daily and literally 75% of my wardrobe comes from there, and I’m talking some really nice items too. I consider it like a treasure hunt 😊

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
