Ya know what's awesome????

I am 2 weeks out and every time I get on the scale the number is lower. Once or twice it's been the same, but never HIGHER! When has that ever happened in my life? Nearly never! What a wonderful Christmas miracle that has been made available to all of us so we can get started on a losing journey! I already barely remember the pain and discomfort and am now just looking forward to being cleared to work out.

I never could have done this on my own and I'm just so grateful!!!!!!!!!!!

I know what you mean! The scale is going in the right direction and that makes me happy. Tomorrow (my two week anniversary) I get to go for my follow up and I'm hoping to begin to re-integrate solid foods! I just need savory flavors beyond the bouillon. They wouldn't tell us what the next phase was because they didn't want us to get ahead of ourselves...so puree or whatever...something besides a full liquid please.

I'm grateful to my friend and her husband who have become my new gym buddies. It helps with the motivation, accountability, and makes it easier to not watch the clock on the treadmill.

So, here's to the New Year and to the attainment of our goals for health and well-being.

I DO KNOW WHAT IS AWESOME! We all are, we came from deprecation, being all but invisible to run-of-the-mill people, from NO Hope into a bright beautiful FUTURE. And if you and I still have a distance to make our Goals, why we can and will. And each pound / KG we lose, each,inch/ cm we decrease in our size, it is gone forever and we move ahead. And I know I have made so many friends sharing this journey on Bariatric Pal, and when my heart wanted to give up, when I was uncertain it was worth the effort, they were only a posting away, many had gone through this trial, and there might have been a little trick to get through and move on.
So today is only the prelude to better things
Yesterday is good, it was only the PAST
Tomorrow has not dawned, it is the FUTURE
Today is now, A wonderful Bright shining Day with promise, a True Gift📦
That's why they call it the 🎁 PRESENT!
Much 💘 Love to All.
Merry Christmas🎅
And Every Good Wish for a Happy Prosperous 2019.😝❤😝

My NP told me to put the scale away. ;______;

She felt (through my words and overall tone of the discussion) that I was becoming obsessive about the number and was regulating the happiness of my day through what the number was. I can understand where her concern was, so I'm going to go to once a week weigh-ins :)

Girl, 13lbs in less than 2 weeks is amazing. lol!

I am 37lbs in 8 weeks. I am putting the scale away though. Because it doesn't really matter. I'll get there whenever I get there.

Yes, Batty me gal, I think that's the ticket. I have started weighing twice per week. Today was weigh day and I'm down 2 more, so 15 since surgery. I guess that's faster than I've ever lost 15 pounds before in my life!!!!! And known it wasn't coming back!

Exactly! When was the last time we lost this amount of weight so quickly? My NP also said that we need to remove ourselves from "results driven activities." Of course we want to lose weight and it's so easily to feel lost inside the idea that we need to do this, do that in order to achieve these specific results. What happens when we achieve our results? Well, we stop trying. And we all know that our weight journey is going to be for the rest of our lives. So she wanted me to focus on just following the program and going with the flow. I don't think I'm explaining it well, so I'm sorry!

You explained it fine! I am a terribly competitive, results-driven person, so this will be HARD for me. But I'm gonna try!!!

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
