Lap-Band in Upstate NY

Has anyone had any experience with any MDs in Rochester NY? I am scheduled for their information session with Dr. O'Malley and Dr. Moss. Any experience or suggestions?

I am really hoping that insurance covers the lapband. I cannot afford it out of pocket. I am at the 40 BMI but I don't have any other issues, yet. I do have back, hip and joint pain but nothing that is arthritis. My BP and cholesterol levels are fine. I have no diabetes issues either.

Any suggestions?

Thanks!

If i don't post the number for Beyond Diets in the next day or so just keep posting that...or just send me a PM. I have all the info at work...

That is a really random question! Seriously...does ANYONE truly have guys just rubbing themselves up against them? I've never seen that happend to my "skinny" friends unless we're out dancing and even then, everyone's drunk...boys are just stupid...LOL seriously....

oh! also, Dr. D said that he gets approval all the time from Preferred Care...they're just more strict and basically you have to do the 6 month supervised diet....that's really the only difference. I can't WAIT for my surgery!!! I'm so excited for every single step of this...even the upper GI...it's all just one step closer to getting my lap band!!!

I'm on day 2 of my pre-op liquid diet.... someone SHOT ME!! oye.... slimfast isn't too bad. I have the cappiccino delight, vanilla and strawberry creme. Mom also made sf jello too... I just keep in mind the bigger picture..... losing weight!!

When is your surgery? How long are you on liquids?

My surgery is Tuesday!! April 8th. I have to do liquids for 5 days before. I'm off work for 3 weeks. My mom is out searching for a juicer. For after surgery, at least I can get fresh veges in!

Wow - that is soon! I wish you all the best. Keep us informed how you are doing.

:cursing: Tuesday!!! I'm so excited for you! Keep us posted....do you have to drink slimfast or can it be any liquid protein shake?? I have one that tastes SO MUCH BETTER...

Dr D says slimfast or atkins.... no others for the 5 day preop diet. Only tea, coffee, diet jello and water. Cat food was looking pretty good yesterday.

tomorrow!!! Are you completely excited right now? Or are nerves setting in?

I just saw Shedd this A.M.....nasty viral sinus thing...she gave me some Nasonex to help clear out the pressure in my head....but i'm about to go sleep and see if that helps as well. I also asked her about writting the letter for me and she said that I could just fax it in to her...but i'm thinking that I should wait until after I have all the testing done? Did you wait for all the tests or did you have Shedd write the letter for you beforehand?

I know you'll be on protein shakes after surgery as well...get some SF/FF flavor syrups from Wegmans....caramel, raspberry, etc...whatever you like. It will seriously help the shakes taste better. I'm going to bring a pack of the Champion powder for him to look at because those really do taste good...hopefully they'll be ok. I don't like Slimfast or Atkins...

GOODLUCK to you tomorrow!!!

I hope Dr Shedd is feeling better!! She wasn't when I saw her a week ago. Dr D had to fax her a template to use to write the letter of PCP support (If that's the letter you're asking about) and no, no tests were needed. It's just a letter stating her support during this journey, and that I've been overweight forever.

I'm all packed for tomorrow. I'll post as soon as I can wednesday when I get home (if I don't just sleep for the rest of the week!)

Then i'll fax it to her..she was really excited for me actually...which I thought was a great sign..so were the nurses. (i really should remember her name...she's so nice!)

GOODLUCK tomorrow morning! The journey begins:thumbup::lol:

I am glad to hear all went well tvveggie. I go for my 2nd nutrition meeting on the 22nd. Do they tell you then what your meal plan is up until surgery? THey are telling me it will be 6-8 weeks from that appt before the surgery.

Keep in touch and let us know how you are doing!

Gilta

Thanks Barbie & Gilta, I'm feeling fantastic, My surgery was Monday 3/31 & I was discharged from the hospital at 9:00 a.m. the next morning. Today was my first post-op appointment & I am now on the 2nd phase of the nutrition plan, the pureed/mushie stage.

There were no complications, everything went extremely well, I was even able to see my lap-band on the x-ray monitor, my x-ray tech showed my lap-band & port.... it was pretty neat.

I had the usual post-surgery fatigue related to the anethesia, and was rather sore at the port site, but overall, everything went well. I'm returning to work tomorrow & am more than ready to begin working again.

I would say by Sunday evening I was feeling pretty darn good!

Gilta- regarding your 2nd nutrition appointment, between your 2nd nutrition appointment & your surgery you are to just continue your current eating plan, the day before surgery you are required to have only clear liquids & nothing to eat or drink morning of surgery.

Take care everyone!
