Lap-Band in Upstate NY

Has anyone had any experience with any MDs in Rochester NY? I am scheduled for their information session with Dr. O'Malley and Dr. Moss. Any experience or suggestions?

I am really hoping that insurance covers the lapband. I cannot afford it out of pocket. I am at the 40 BMI but I don't have any other issues, yet. I do have back, hip and joint pain but nothing that is arthritis. My BP and cholesterol levels are fine. I have no diabetes issues either.

Any suggestions?

Thanks!

I'm going thru a rough time too. My sister (the one that had RNY and gained it all back) had predicted I'd be a failure, and with thanksgiving coming, knowing she'll be here. I'm really struggling hearing that constantly. I can do this. She is wrong. I won't fail like she did.

Anyway, I just wanted to peek in.

I've been sick all last week! Yuck! Stupid cold. But I am down a couple pounds so maybe that last fill is working! Or maybe it's just this stupid cold....

Start planning for Thanksgiving everyone!! I plan on eating off a small plate!! I'll have 1 spoonfull of everything and that's it! That way I get a taste of everything and a small plate will look full!

Hey there ladies....let's not lose focus. We are all going to face the most stressful time of the year - but we need to remember we can face it together!!

I just had my first fill - and THANK GOD for the numbing stuff!! I had a lot of scar tissue - so he had to work at getting into the port - but all is good and the scale is moving again. I'm now down 45 lbs since May - 25 since the banding on 9/24. I really want to drop another 10 before Christmas - but realistically I'm thinking 5 is more attainable. My biggest fault has been the lack of exercise. I haven't done a bit - and do not feel motivated in the least to do so. I know it would make the scale move quicker - but.....UGH

Maybe Santa will bring me the Wii Fit for Christmas!! Maybe that would get my butt moving???

Have a great holiday everyone - and try to remember - Thanksgiving isn't about eating - it's about being with family. Fill youself with the glory of being thinner and let the pie stay on the plate!!

Hugs to all

Hi All,

Where is everyone???

Things are really slowing down for me, but I am scheduled for a fill in the beginning of January. I did not want to do it so close to the holidays and have any problems.

how is everyone doing? I think it was Barbie who was up next for surgery. The 17th, right?

Hope all is well.

I'm still here. I was to have my 3rd fill today, but the dr and I opted not to do it. It was a joint decision. I tighted right up last friday and could barely drink water. Why? Matthew (one of the twins) had a grand mal tonic clonic seizure for 90 minutes. Then was life flighted to the nearest university hospital (1 1/2 hours away). As he stabilized, I could eat a little more. I'm still slightly tighter than I was pre seizure. So we decided we'd leave it here.

Thanksgiving itself turned out good for me. I had enough self control that I ate just about what I should. I think I had a little extra. That night matthew had his seizure. That ended my holiday.

I'm nearly done shopping for Christmas. I will finish that up friday. How are ya'll doing?

Oh - Teri

I am so sorry to hear about your son. I hope he is doing better now.

I have heard that stress can tighten you up and I wonder if that is what happened to you. You are doing great on your loss.

I am not doing so well and I am up 1 lb from last week. I have exercised 3 times already too. I hope it will disappear quickly. I know it is because I am eating more than 1000 calories.

Hi Everyone,

NOt sure how many of you are from the Rochester area and go to Highland Hospital for your bariatric surgery, but was just reading the death notices in todays paper and saw that Dr. Thad Boss passed away yesterday. I knew he was sick, and had not been part of the practice for a while due to his illness, didn't realize it was a terminal thing. I heard he was an awesome Dr. his patients loved him a lot. I bet he will be missed. Hope all are doing well.....Happy Holidays to all.

Hi Carol,

Thanks for sharing. I had no idea that Dr. Boss passed away.

How is everyone doing?

I'm sorry about Dr. Boss. I didn't know him or his passing. It's sad that we've lost a dr that treats obesity.

I'm down, and depressed. Not for the whole weight issues. But more for the whole kids issue here. Two of my kids are sick or were... One has improved dramatically. The other is still struggling. One has had a joint bleed, I've had to watch closely. And my smallest son has had two BIG seizures, one landing him in ICU.

Oh Teri, I am so sorry your kids have and are sick! It must be so draining on you. Please take care of yourself and let us know what we can do to help.

Prayers are all anyone can do. It's just really taking the boom out of all this. Exercise is difficult enough with the cold weather, but add the sick kiddos'... and it's a real bitch (can we say that here? )

You got it! Yeah - if it wasn't for the trainer I started with back in March I would probably be in the same boat as you are.

Exercise??? That's easy right now!! GET OUT AND SHOVEL! hahaha

My last fill is slowing me down. And of course I got it right b4 xmas! 8.5 cc's in a 14 cc band now. I can only eat about a 2x2 piece of lasagna. Other stuff I can still chow on.

Terrilynn-prayers for the kids heading your way. I hope Santa brings you good gifts!

Happy Holidays everyone.

Hi all, I am new to this whole process and I am attending the seminar with Dr. DiBenedetto tomorrow in Rochester. I am a little worried about the prior weight loss attempts documentation. I don't go to my PCP much, just when I am sick, and I have tried losing weight the past 13 years. I guess I am just wondering if I am going to be penalized becuase I didn't talk to my PCP about my weight-loss attempts? - Thanks

I would ask that question when you go for your informational meeting tomorrow. I was one who was always at my dr.'s frustrated with my weight loss attempts, so I had good documentation. I have heard of people that just document their weight loss attempts and get their dr's signature on it. It all goes to your ins. company for approval, thats what they want it for. They are also interested in your BMI being over a certain # and any co-morbitity issues you might be dealing with. I would think that any ins. co. would look at those 2 things with more importance than any weight loss attempt over a 13 year period. Although it is important (don't get me wrong) it is not all there is to this process of getting approval for the surgery. Good luck tomorrow and keep us posted.
