Atkins Protein 30g + Fiber Shakes...thoughts?

Mind you I haven't had surgery yet so if these go against post-op rules or anything, I'm here to learn about it.

My store was out of Premier Protein vanilla, but these were right next door on the shelf so I decided, heck, why not see if they suck or not. These shakes are VERY VERY tasty, folks. Equally as tasty as Premier (if you like Premier). By themselves and in my coffee, holy cow  Both the vanilla and the chocolate. They claim to have 30g of protein in 11oz....now, the TYPE of protein might be the kicker. It's not whey protein isolate.

**FYI** Fellow Keto Peeps (if there are any here):
If you're eating strict ketogenic (i.e. Ketovangelist style), these shakes are NOT "keto legal" :840_x:
Dirty Ketonians, should be fine :973_ballot_box_with_check:
LCHF/Atkins - obviously :973_ballot_box_with_check:

  • I might have to try those.

  • Theres nothing wrong with these. I drank Atkins shakes for a while post-op. These just have lactose in them. Some people cant tolerate it after surgery, some can. I dont even drink whey anything anymo

  • The only thing my dietitian grumbled about is that the regular Atkins is 7g fat and the shakes should be 3g or less. But I wasn't tolerating the others so she was like whatever. lol. I don't know how

Ohhhh, I didn't know fat did it too

It doesn't.... sweets and fried food mostly... fat is not something to track.. protein, sugar, and water. GOOD fats actually HELP with weight loss!

I sit here drinking my normal 15g Protein Atkins. i cry silently realizing these are the only edible Protein Shake i like and they have too much fat.. Im on preop diet and now i feel like ive f*cked up royally. Surgery is in 3 days...

Honestly my dietitian would have rather me gotten protein in than go slightly over the recommended fat content. She did force me to try a bunch of others first, but they all made me super sick. Post-op, the Atkins also started making me sick, but likely not due to the fat content (I have a whey allergy).

I LOVE soy protein. I think they all taste like brownie or pancake batter. lol. They are a little grainy, but meh.

Oh, and for real, on my pre-op diet I majorly cheated like 4 times and had Burger King and Taco Bell and texmex and all kinds of other crap. You're not ruining anything. Don't worry. lol.

That is the complete opposite of what my surgeon and team stress. Every single thing I buy must be nonfat or lowfat for the rest of my life. Eventually I can have more, like nuts, etc. Everyone has different programs. No one seems to have the same recommended diet. Do whatever your surgeon tells you to do. Ultimately that is who you should listen to... not anyone from a forum or some YouTuber.

The MayoClinic site also confirms that high fat diets cause dumping: https://www.mayoclinic.org/tests-procedures/gastric-bypass-surgery/in-depth/gastric-bypass-diet/art-20048472 amongst many other websites. Here is another: https://www.webmd.com/digestive-disorders/dumping-syndrome-causes-foods-treatments#1

I didnt even have a pre-op diet at all. I didnt even know people did until I joined this forum after surgery. The only thing I had to do was the day before surgery was liquids and 1 bottle of bubbly laxative water.
