Hahaha! Girl, I already hound my poor lady over at the surgeon's office with insurance related stuff LOL I figure here, I'll get unfiltered, real life answers.

So if you mix Protein Powder into Water, does it slide right through without your body absorbing the Protein? Is it better mixed with fair life milk or doesn't that slide through too? Can we ever eat Soup again or does the broth slip all the soup bits right on out? I'll ask at my next appt but there are so many different answers and different nutritionist opinions.

Good questions that I'd love to hear the answers to as well :91_thumbsup:

Great question & great answers...I really struggle with the whole 'not drinking while eating' thing, However, after reading this post, I'm committed to doing better with it.

Thanks to all that replied.

I am taking it all in. Every since I can remember when we sat down to eat, you had something to drink. 51 year habits are very hard to break. I am still in the full liquid diet stage. Christmas Eve I get to graduate to purees. Looking forward to it. [emoji3] I have not used a straw since the day before surgery and try my best to get my Protein and Water in everyday. Thank you all for sharing. Every little bit is something to learn from.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
