SeriouslyLori reacted to SteveT74 in December 2018 Sleevers!Good for you. I had my surgery on 12/17 and started spin classes last Sunday. I started slow my first class, but I am busting my ass now!! I have been on purees and softs from day one so getting the protein and calories hasn't been an issue for. I can also drink without restriction so hydration is no problem either. I can easily drink 100+ ounce a day. As for diet, I cut carbs down to less than 20 net carbs a day, so my protein makes up more than 50% of my caloric intake daily and fats (good fats like avocado, fish oil, etc) make of another 42%. I log everything I put in my mouth in MyFitnessPal and watch the macros and nutrient count carefully. I just went into ketosis 6 days ago, which broke 10 day stall. I am now down 31 pounds since I started my pre-op diet and 14 since I had the surgery. More importantly, I feel awe some and my blood sugars are normal!!!! I had a fasting blood sugar this morning of 87 without meds. I used to be in the 120 s or higher on metformin and victoza.
I love my sleeve!!! However, I fo still get some hunger and can eat more than 6oz of food, which seems like a lot compared to everyone else. Not sure what it all means for my future.

SeriouslyLori reacted to Mama234 in December 2018 Sleevers!Hi. New here, glad I found you folks. I had my sleeve surgery on 12-31-18. I'm a wife, mom of two kids , and a pediatric nurse. I gained an enormous amount of weight over the last ten years after I was diagnosed with lupus. I was nervous about the surgery, but I'm so glad I went through with it. I am thrilled about possibly being thinner, healthier and more mobile in the New Year. Good luck to all of us...its going to be a happy , health new year.

SeriouslyLori reacted to Phillysawdocfan in December 2018 Sleevers!Hi Jean, sounds like your doing great. My surgery was 12/27. It is tough getting all of the liquids in. Funny, we are headed to walmart now to get some steps in and pick up some supplies. Keep up the good work.

SeriouslyLori reacted to Van C. in ComplicationsI had a hernia repair too; my surgeon says it's pretty common. My surgery date was 12/17 too. i was pretty sore in that upper rib cage region - probably from hernia but pain didn't last. Do your deep breathing exercises, I think that really helped.

SeriouslyLori reacted to SteveT74 in December 2018 Sleevers!I am really glad you posted this. I have been a little worried because my recovery has been so easy. It hurt to drink on the first 2 days. But I am 6 days post-op and I can almost drink like normal. I don't think I could chug a whole Snapple, but I don't need to take small sips either. That said, I am in the soft/puree stage on my program's diet and an ounce of food will cause pain and make me pound my chest and have to take a walk. I am also losing a pound a day since surgery, so something is working. If you can drink with relative ease, I think you should just consider yourself lucky!! It doesn't mean your sleeve is too big or anything like that. You are just healing well and ready to move to the next stage.

SeriouslyLori got a reaction from Frustr8 in Drinking While Eating and Pouch QuestionI was told that the fluid washes away the nutrients you are getting from the food so it’s best to drink apart from eating 99% of the time. But if I’m eating Mexican or something I’m gonna take a sip or two of water.

SeriouslyLori reacted to mousecat88 in Drinking While Eating and Pouch QuestionI can just tell you my personal experience with fullness.
I don't know specifically how long food stays in the pouch and I don't feel full in the same sense I did pre-op. When I am "full", I can feel the food almost pushing back up my throat a little bit, or I feel like a heaviness. That's how I know I ate just a little too much, so I stick with pre-portioned stuff 85% of the time. I know I am getting ready to be done because I burp a little. That's when I 100% know to stop. Liquids pass through super quickly. Like within a minute quickly.
You shouldn't eat and drink at the same time because a) overtime it will stretch your pouch (biggest issue), b) the liquid will make it so you can't eat more, which you should and c) you risk flushing things through, which may cause upset stomach or worse. And no straws because with straws you are sucking air into your pouch, again... stretching and taking up space... probably will make you gassy, too.

SeriouslyLori reacted to mousecat88 in Drinking While Eating and Pouch QuestionIf something gets stuck in your throat, like what totally happened to me Saturday with the spices irritating my throat, taking a small sip to clear it won't kill you or anything. lol. They just don't want you drinking with your meal, regularly. But... please... if you're choking... drink something. Haha

SeriouslyLori reacted to GassyGurl in ComplicationsSome studies say most obese people have hiatal hernias. Totally common for your surgeon to fix at the same time. Just a few stitches to tighten up the diaphragm. Feel better soon

SeriouslyLori got a reaction from ProudGrammy in ComplicationsI had sleeve surgery on Monday and they discovered I had a hiatal hernia. Has anyone else had this happen? I’m home now and in so much pain. Every breath hurts.
