I started today on the liquid diet and for 2 weeks (my surgery is 2 weeks from today), I can only have 3 Protein Shakes, Jello, broth, sugar free Popsicle, every day for 14 days. Why do some surgeons let you have food? Mine is really strict with NO FOOD, only liquids. Hope I can do this!!!!!

I started this today too, and have surgery the same day :) I'm really surprised that you're only allowed 3 Protein Shakes. My program allows 5 (6 if over a certain BMI), but also, NO FOOD. Every Doctor/hospital has their own science behind their program. Stick with it.

We are allowed a 4th Protein Shake, only if we are so hungry we can't get through the day. So far I am 2 Protein Shakes in, 64oz of Water, a cup of broth, and I am going to go home and have my 3rd Protein shake and have some Jello and a Popsicle.

I’m struggling so bad with my liquid diet I think my problem is I’m not drinking enough Water and waiting so long to have my shakes to the point where my head hurts so bad. Any tips?

I start mine on the 18th November it suppose to be a 10 day but my surgery is not until the 29 Nov so that is 11 days mine consist of 3 Protein Drinks and 1 small meal so I guess I am lucky.

I am on Day 10 of my 2 week liquid diet and think it has gotten easier as I go. When the Water gets tough to drink I add a little flavoring to it (crystal light) and it helps. My surgeon also allows cream of what or oatmeal. The first few day were the roughest. Good luck.

I started mine yesterday. My surgery is November 26. Our plan doesn’t require any Weightloss pre-surgery and I don’t have to do a liquid diet until 2 days before, but I am starting because I want to lose for my liver and kidneys beforehand. I have low kidney function and a really fatty liver. I told my hubby today “sorry in advance for being cranky for the next several weeks!” 😉😂

I am 5 days in and I am extremely irritable. My surgery is November 21. My doctor never mentioned to me whether I had a fatty liver or not but everyone is required to do pre op diet in his practice reguardless if you are 200 lbs or 400 lbs

I start my liquid diet tomorrow and my surgery is 11/26. I have already apologized to the family for the attitude I'm going to have, especially on Thanksgiving.

Yeah I was definitely Hangry, luckily my Liver Shrink Diet was only a week. I feel for those of you who have to go through Thanksgiving. I just had my sleeve on the 13th and even though my diet is even more restrictive now, it is so much easier. You'll definitely get through it.

As to why your surgeon is being so much more strict than others, mine was the same way. Even post op, he is making sure we do every thing as slowly and carefully as possible. Try to see this as a good thing. It means your surgeon wants you to have the absolutely best chances of success. They aren't willing to compromise if it means lessening your chance of an easy recovery. Although when you're going through it (especially as long as you have to), it is grueling.

I started my liver shrink diet the day after Thanksgiving. Tomorrow I have to start Clear Liquids for surgery on Thursday 11/29. Unfortunately, BVSA doesn't include any type of protocol to follow. They basically hand you a list of what you can have and turn you loose. I had to look up a sample protocol on the internet this morning to get an idea of what I'm supposed to be doing. I've also gained 4 lbs since starting liquids!! Isn't that insane?!

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!
