Post surgery 4 months mini stalls

Recommended Posts

So as it said I’m a bit over 4 months. Highest weight was 316. I’m now sitting at 228 as of this morning. I was wearing a size 28/30. Now I’m wearing a size 20 comfortably.

Now where I need thoughts and opinions here is. I’m getting hungry more frequently now. I tend to wake up in the morning very hungry. I hate having that feeling.

what does everyone else do? Do you wake up nearly starving?

Another issue I’m seeing is I’m going nearly in a three week cycle. Where one week I loose almost 7-10 pounds then I sit at that weight for almost a full 3 weeks.

Its driving me nuts. I don’t know what I’m doing wrong here.

Im eating around 800-1200 calories a day. I don’t do Protein Drinks very often I tend to get Protein from meats.

Im eating nuts as a snack.

I have started eating tortilla chips but I’m stopping that I think that killed me for a week allowing that carb back in.

As a rule I don’t eat Pasta, bread, and rice.

I have let in too many carbs and sugar I think. I don’t eat sweets but I have been eating apple and Peanut Butter.

I also have a 12 oz coffee with French vanilla Creamer every morning.

I also realized I forget a lot more than I should no drinking before or after rule

Any thoughts, suggestions and opinions are very welcome.

How did an Oklahoman get a pen name like Oceanlove? Is there a📋 backstory here?

Hunger is an odd thing, I was getting hungry a lot more, then I started with the Intermittent Fasting (IF) and the hunger went away. This weekend I stopped with the IF because it's a celebratory weekend for my wife and I, and today, trying to get back into my typical routine, I'm hungry already when I'm usually not.

Look for things to swap, that creamer, is it sugar free and low cal? If not, that's something to swap out for a better option.

Chips... find the veggie chips, again not "good" for you, but "better" than corn and potato chips.

If your Protein levels are high, it doesn't matter where you are getting them from.

What I don't see here, is your Water intake. Water is super important. The human body will not process fat correctly or efficiently if it does not have enough to perform it's normal day to day. If you aren't getting upwards of 128 oz of water a day, I highly suggest doing so.

I would work on the no drinking after meals. Drinking with or after meals washes the food out of your pouch, and can make you hungry earlier. It defeats the purpose of the pouch. Let your pouch stay fuller longer by not drinking for 30-60 minutes after eating, whatever was suggested by your team.

I would suggest upon waking, drink Water immediately. Then coffee or tea, then water again. Hydrate (first thing) as much as you can. It really sets the tone for your day.

Try a different creamer for coffee (sugar free, fat free international delight's or fat free half&half) or as most of the bariatric community has tried, Protein Shake as creamer. Game changer. I do this everyday and I don't need the extra Protein but I can control the ingredients and cals from it so win/win because it tastes amazing too.

Ty so much I’m loving the feedback. I never thought about the Protein Drink as creamer. I’m going to give that a try.

As for my name lol yes I love the ocean I worked for a cruise line and loved being out on the ocean.

How are you doing the Intermittend fasting? I know there are a few different ways.

For me, I'm doing a light IF, I eat between 8am and 6pm.

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

That sounds awesome. I'll have to check that out thanks!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
