Feeling hungry 5 months post op

Recommended Posts

It’s been 5 months post GS surgery and I get hungry every few hours. Is this normal ? Has something gone wrong? I’ve lost 25kgs and I’m too scared to weigh myself incase I’ve put on weight. Is anyone else feeling the hunger pangs and how do you deal with them ??

Not everyone loses the hunger sensation or it returns sooner than expected.

Drink tons of fluids. Water, tea even coffee will keep you occupied until your set meal times occurs. Only eat at set meal times no matter what. Drink every other hunger away.

When cleared for it, clean dressing free salads will keep you full with very little calories.

Reach out to your team and let them know what's going on and receive the direct support you need.

Safe Journey

I agree with this.

I have found the more often I eat, the more often I get hungry, creating a vicious cycle. If I can fight off a wave of hunger, it will extinguish the hunger for many hours. It is hard at first, but then, IME, the hunger just diminishes for the most part. I also drink, drink, drink, and busy/distract myself when fighting off the hunger.

I would agree with all the information above. I am just under 6 months post op at this point and my 'hunger' has returned. I would like to state that it is not a traditional hunger though. My stomach gets a bit grumbly when I haven't eaten for a few hours, but I don't get that 'I want to stuff my face' type of hunger.

However when I do feel hungry and know that it's not really time for me to eat, that's when I'll go for a coffee with Premier Protein, or a Protein Water that has a bit more bulk to it than just water. It satisfies that craving for something to digest.

Still purging all of the larger clothing. This morning, a shirt that I ADORED wearing ended up on top. Hard to let it go, but it was also hard to let go of those habits that also no longer serve my highest good. Onward and upward!

Well, tomorrow I go in for an impromptu hiatal hernia repair after ending up in the ER over the weekend because I couldn't get food down and water was moving at a trickle... I've been having these symptoms on and off for a few weeks but Sunday was the worst by far and came with chest pain and trouble breathing. The ER PA thinks it is just esophagitis and that the surgeon and radiologist are wrong. But the bariatric surgeon swears it is a hernia, possibly a sliding one based on my symptoms. So he fit me into his schedule this week to repair it! I hope he's right and this sorts it out. He's going to do a scope afterwards to be sure there is nothing wrong with the esophagus. Here's hoping it all goes well!!
