Hi everyone,

I’m 6 weeks out and 19lbs down. I’m not eating much because my tummy can be moody and the idea of eating makes me anxious. I’m trying to build my courage with recipes but I see so much cheese everywhere - and as a patient who had terrible constipation, it makes me weary. So I have two questions:

1) Why is there so much cheese out there? Is it because of macros or nutritional value or taste?

2) What are your non-cheese recipes?

Depends on the point of view. IMO it's "taste".

Regarding recipes: what are your personal taste preferences?

Not sure I can answer the question about why there is so much cheese out there. Personally, I love it and it is a staple in my diet. I always have sticks of cheese in my refrigerator and if I get tired of yogurt for Breakfast will switch it up and have cottage cheese. Never had an issue with constipation.

If you're looking for soft food, non-cheese, substitutes that carry a healthy punch of Protein, my go-to is hummus. There are lots of variations that you can find in stores, but I like it best when it's simple and homemade. Another option is refried Beans. They can be a little bland, so I spice them up with chili powder and a little sour cream.

Hahahaaha! OMG. This still annoys me! All the FB recipes that are the little movies, are like gooey cheese bombs. And I "get" that Americans tend to think cheesy/gooey=comforty delicious lol...but gawd! Stop it! LOL.

Cheese makes post-surg pooping just a nightmare for me, despite gobs of Fiber from plants/berries/nuts and a couple of stray Beans, plus Miralax, plus colace. LOL. And post RNY, if I eat too much cheese, I get very nauseated.

For the most part to this day at 1st Goal and almost 10 months out, I eat cleanly--very simple. No recipes necessary. LOL. Cuz recipes add not only time in the kitchen, but also add calories, You can pack in a butt load of food for 600-800 cals/day that is deeply nutritious:

1. lean proteins: fish, seafood, chicken, turkey, egg whites, eggs, lean cuts of pork/beef. and of course you also have plant proteins--which I don't really use as Protein sources--more as Condiments, but that's up to you.

2. low glycemic veggies

3. healthy oils (avocado, avo oil, evoo, coconut oil, sesame oil, grassfed butter, nuts/seeds)

4. some low glycemic berries

Meals take about 10-20 minutes max and that's only if I have to grill that night. But we grill to have quick leftover protein sources, or quick saute in a pan, or use the GF grill so it's easy peasy...

      Today I had my first post surgery update. I haven't eaten anything other than the occasional popsicle and my daily protein shakes in 2 weeks. I have lost 30lbs in those 2 weeks. The doctor is happy. I am starting to see changes I have no more swelling in my legs after sitting at my work desk all day. I don't get to eat an egg till next week. I have my total carb and protein counts so when I can start eating I know how much I can have. My surgeon / doctor has been great thru this whole process. He listens and gives good information about what to expect and what I should be doing. He has an amazing team here in Boise. I am glad I went with him to do this life changing process.

      Looking on the bright side: both a loss of 1lb/week and a loss of 4lbs/week are LOSSES.  So long as the trendline is going down, I'm happy.

      Thought I'd give an update.  I'm over half way to my goal, which is awesome, and I've lost over 12 inches in my waist!  The weight isn't coming off as quickly as I had hoped, but I am also not exercising and still not getting even close to the amount of water I should be drinking, so slow weight loss is not all that surprising.  Sometimes I'm just "over it" and try to eat huge portions like I used to, but, thankfully, I feel the restriction of my smaller stomach and can't go crazy.  In general, I'm quite good, just trying to live my life.
      I now have a motivation to start exercising, though... I booked a plane ticket to Germany for the end of September, so this is a good chance to get strong, get hydrated, and reach my weight goal.
