I can eat it with no problem even with tight restriction. It goes down easy. I only have it once every month or too. I, like Jachut, only eat it the old fashioned way.

There is just something about movie popcorn that makes me not want to eat it. Perhaps it is all the chemicals I can imagine in that flourescent yellow colored fake buttery stuff that they drown it in.

By the way, my doctor doesn't forbid it. This is the first time I have heard that some doctors don't want us to eat it.

My Dr. looked at me like I was crazy when I ask if I could eat it or not! He said he had no idea what I could or could not handle, that everyone differs!!

I LOVE popcorn! Love it airpopped, and love it loaded with chemical butter!!! LOL Heather I try to tell myself it is preserving me from the inside out!!! I don't eat it often----I do however have it every time I am at the movie theater---good thing I don't go often!!!

We went and saw 7 pounds, and that is about how much I probably ate!!!

As with all foods, unless your Dr. prohibits it, take it very slow---it is the only way you can find out if you are one who can eat it or not. Wierd things give people difficulty. Like Heather I can eat popcorn regardless of restriction level----but potato chips----they are a really slow go, so I just avoid them, they cause me pain digesting them.....go figure.

One thing my band Dr. and I discussed when I originally talked to him, and I think I mentioned this before was to make sure the popcorn was crisp. When it is not fresh and crispy it seems to just squash down when you chew it, not break up. When it does that, it can swell into its original size when combined with Fluid in your pouch. Make sure when you chew it that it is really breaking up, not just compressing.

Made myself hungry!!!

For me, popcorn is one of those things that I'd rather smell than eat. Don't get me wrong, I like it, and still have a handful every now and then, but the eating of it doesn't measure up to the aroma and the thought of it. And my doctor doesn't have any restrictions against it.

I eat popcorn! It's probably another one of those dietary restrictions my surgeon would be upset about if he knew I didn't/haven't cut out the popcorn! I don't eat it all the time, although I went for quite a while after my surgery before I risked it, and I didn't have any problems.

I love popcorn and have become accustomed to eating airpopped corn plain! Took a bit of getting used to but it's the most healthy way. It's also only has a glycemic load of 8 which makes it a low load food! Not to mention it's an excellent source of fiber!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
