Hello all, My name is Greg. I have decided to take this journey of gastric bypass surgery. They tell me I don’t need to wait 6 months because my bmi is 50.5. They tell me if you are over 50 bmi then my insurance bypasses the 6 months. So October 9th, I have an appointment with the dietician. Then the day before thanksgiving I have a psych appointment. Any idea how long from there the surgery will be scheduled. This website is great and gives great encouragement.

Unless already done these, you'll usually need to be cleared by a few more specialists including Cardio, Gastro and even a sleep study. Then the surgeons office will submit all the information to the insurance company and request approval/authorization for payment.

Depending on how quickly you get through all of the pre-op testing (with no complications that need to be resolved first) , insurance approval and the schedule of the surgeon will usually the determine how fast you can have surgery.

Your situation may be different so for an accurate answer ask if there is anything else you need to do

Safe journey

Welcome Greg, I started my journey in April. As of yesterday I am done with my insurance requirements of 4 month waiting period, 4 dietician/nutrisonist appointments and 1 phsych and Pre Op testing. I am scheduled for my bypass on Oct. 16th. Sounds like after thanksgiving you will do your Pre Op testing unless you have more dietician appointments 1st. Good luck with your journey.

A Marine is never " only" Greg! Those are some of the finest and truest young men and young women you could ever hope to meet!
That said I shall go out on a "branch"🐵Mine humble opinion: the end of 2018-early 2019. Now just watch, you will either say " My oh My, that Frustr8 is one smart woman" or " That Frustr8, she never gets anything right!" And I feel like recently,I've been a little, bit of both, but welcome, congratulations on making a commitment to future health and hang with us! We are a nice group of,people.👸👨👩👴👵🎁

I was checking my sheet of things I need to get done. The last two things I have is dietician appointment and the psyche appointment. Then I believe they will just need to do paperwork to insurance for final approval. Endo, was crossed off with a majority of the other things. I all ready sleep with cpap so do not need a sleep study. I see the dietician on Oct 9 and psychologist the day before thanksgiving. I figure once I see the dietician my diet will change drastically

Most assuredly it will but for the better.I just had RnY surgery September 5th at the age of 72. And I am very happy about that. Worked 3 years to get there, almost faltered but never quit, and now,i am learning to live again!😛Come join me, even time they measured me I got shorter, down from 5ft11in to 5ft8.5in so my BMI was close to 50, and now it is coming down , lost 55 going on 60 pounds from my highest, about 20 in3.5 weeks.🚩 And I haven't hit my best losing stride yet.😛

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
