October 2018 Sleevers

Recommended Posts

HI All! I’m new to this group and so happy to have found you all. I had my surgery 10/2 and I wish I had known about this group sooner. It’s so nice to read through and see people living through the same experiences both successes and struggles that I am. It can be a very lonely process but your stories make me feel a little less crazy and justify my feelings. And it also reduces my panic with some of the aches and painsI’ve been having to hear it’s normal. To all those still in the pre-op phase feel free to ask me any questions you may have as I wish I had had someone to talk to who had so recently been through what I was about to go through.

My family is being rough too.. my dad was sleeved in 2011 and has gained about half of it back so keeps monitoring everything I put in my mouth. My aunt and sister think I’m cheating by having surgery and should do it the “real” way. They are both overweight too so I don’t get it. My bf was supportive but he dumped me recently. So that was fun.

I was sleeved 10/1 and am still sooo tired. Anyone else?

One week post-op...

Almost back to normal. Some incision pain, especially where my band port used to be. Hurts to cough or sneeze, though. I brings a tear to my eye. Eating (rather drinking) is rather routine. I am hitting my Protein targets each day, but sometimes struggle with 64 ounces of Fluid. I get tired of drinking and if I don't start early enough, I find myself marathon drinking (sometimes with daily protein included) before bed, which necessitates getting up at least four times to go to the bathroom!

On the day of surgery, I weighed 210.8. When I was discharged I weighed 218.4 (that's a lot of fluid!). Today I am at 204.2, which technically is a weight loss of 14.2lbs for the week. But in reality, I am down 6.6lbs this week and am stoked about it. Especially since I am a band to sleeve converter and "lose slower".

I have been taking naps each day, but not overly tired. I almost lie down because I feel that is what I am supposed to be doing. Hope it resolves soon for you.

I'm mad at your family on your behalf 😡

I'm also still pretty tired (10/3). I have always needed more sleep than most people (9 hours a night, give or take), but I need even more than that, right now. I'm really paranoid about blood clots, so I'm setting an alarm to get up and drink a few sips and walk a few laps of my room ~5 hours after bedtime, if I haven't been up to use the restroom yet. That probably? isn't? helping? Nor is the Benadryl my surgeon has me on, probably--I'm getting a lower quality of sleep, I think. I'm very tired.

Good luck with the surgery and quick healing! Just remember it gets a little better every day!

I'm doing well also. I was struggle to get all my Protein and liquids but today was much better!
My incisions sometime are painful especially the one with staples where the drain was placed. I'm still careful getting in and out of bed but that's improved as well. I agree that coughing and sneezing are painful!! If I feel one coming on I grab my belly tightly and that seems to help some.

On the day of surgery, I weighed 228.8. When I was discharged I weighed 243.8. (15 pounds of fluid!). As of this morning I'm back down to surgery weight of 228.8. Ive lost a total of 35 pounds since starting my journey in April so I'm very happy! I'm still learning to take tiny, tiny sips and only 1 or 2 at a time or I get the pain in the middle of my chest. I went back to work today and didn't have any issues other than being a little tired at the end of the day. Glad to find a surgery twin!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
