October 2018 Sleevers

Recommended Posts

My first night home from the hospital, I’m restless and feel “full” from the constant Protein Water. I’m not sure where to sleep. Bed, recliner? Any suggestions?

I slept on my back in bed for the first week. Soon after that I was able to sleep on my side again. Good luck getting comfortable.

October 31st sleever update......My surgery went well, I had an umbilical hernia that was repaired also. The first 24 hours were terrible! I had uncontrollable nausea and gas pain until yesterday afternoon. After adjusting the meds I started feeling better. I haven’t gotten much in the way of liquids down. Hopefully I’ll be able to get a sufficient amount down so I can go home today. I have been experiencing pressure between my breastbone when I tap sips of Water. Has anyone else had this experience? If so what was the solution?

I had my surgery for sleeve on wed, the 31st. I have been miserably nauseated and I can’t. Keep Water down.
The nurse said she thinks perhaps my hole into the sleeve is too small. She sent the dr a message suggesting I may need a balloon surgery to widen the hole a little. Anyone had this done? I really want to go home today. :(

I had a rough time with nausea after the surgery. Mine was from the anesthesia and lasted until the next morning. Then I was ok. Good luck!

Hey, so I’m in my pre-op liquid diet my surgery is Nov 7. I’m starting to get really scared. My biggest fear is leaving my two little girls behind if anything happens to me, that’s the only thing that I’m constantly thinking of. How did you guys get pass his fear. 😔

Wow.. that's pretty heavy.. hrmm.. two things.. one.. and probably the biggest.. not sure your current weight but at mine.. the odds are I wouldn't live another 10 years at the weight I was.. and second my surgeon informed me the surgery.. while major isnt open.. in almost all situations.. its laprascopic.. and it's as severe as a gall bladder removal surgery.. which is pretty benign.. so ya. That gave me some confidence.

The biggest thing though was the first one.. the facts say people of my weight don't make it to 60.. so being 44 I needed to do something if I wanted to live.. which I do :-) best of luck to you.

Honestly, for the last week pre-op I desperately wanted to cancel my surgery. So, I just avoided thinking about it. When I was in pre-op, my surgeon came in and said that the last time he saw me, I'd still been unsure and asked how I was feeling. I told him, honestly, that I was still unsure. But I went through with it. And at least for now I'm glad I did. In truth, I've tried everything to lose weight. And I wasn't ever going to be able to do it without this tool. But to get myself on the table, I had to pretty much ignore the fact that it was happening.

I can relate. In the end I just stopped talking to people and just decided to do what was in the best interest of my health. It worked out and I'm glad I did it.

I completely relate to this- I’m a single mum to daughters age 2 and 4, this was a big deal but think of why we do this, I’m flying back to the UK tomorrow and can’t wait to see them, it’s been almost like an out of body experience but you made this decision and they will wholeheartedly benefit from seeing you happier at the end. You can totally do this xx

My kids are teens but I had the same fears. I didn't want to leave my husband and kids but I kept telling myself what made me consider the surgery in the first place (my son plays football and I had gotten so large that even walking up the bleachers to watch him play would wind me and leave me out of breath.) He will be a senior next fall and with the path I was on (I had gained over 20 lbs since 1/1/18) I was going to miss seeing him play his senior year. I just told myself I had to put my own fears aside and do what was best for not only myself but also my kids. Now I'm 4 days post op and it still hurts but each day is getting easier and I am convinced I made the right decision to proceed with surgery.

I'm over the liquids too! I hope I get cleared on Thursday 11/08/2018. I'm so sick of artificial flavor .... I can't wait to eat something healthy ... I crave greens, spinach, kale ... anything green... but of course Protein comes first :)

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
