I am one week post op and feeling like what am I doing wrong this is too good to be true! Had to take my hubby to Walk in clinic today and got on the scale and I am down 12lbs. already. I know this is not the norm but I was very happy. I am going in tomorrow to hopefully get my discharge bag removed. Then hopefully can go back to work. I hope all is going good for the rest of you and I will try to be on as much as possible,

Hi nettyinlacey! Congrats on the weight loss! I had my surgery on the 16th and I’m feeling great too! Keep up the great work!

Just wondering if anyone is as annoyed as I am with the weight loss? I’ve lost 27 lbs overall which I am happy with but 14 of that was pre op. I was sleeved on 10/1 and feel like I’ve should’ve lost more than 13 lbs considering I’m still on a liquid diet (I have eaten small amount of food here and there not much). My eating habits were so extreme pre surgery and I know it takes time but I’m just wondering what the hell is happening. Is it me??
Be patient, drink the fluids and stay on top of your protien intake...the Protein plays a big part In losing g...and walk walk walk...then walk some more...goodluck

Hi kellyp. I had my surgery on the 16th and I feel the same as you, every day gets better. Yesterday was the first day I didn’t need a nap lol! Today I’m going to try to go for a nice, long walk. I’m getting sick of the Protein shakes! I never thought I’d be excited to eat puréed food! [emoji2] Good luck to you!
I had to change shakes 2 times in 2 weeks...try Unjury...they are great...no aftertaste

Officially halfway through my pre-op liquid diet and discovering that I can be quite hard to live with sometimes. [emoji20] 7 days and I am losing my mind. My surgery isn't until the 29th and I am feeling like a neglectful wife/mother for missing so many events this week (my hubby's b-day dinner, my sons team dinner for football, sweetest day dinner with the family and my sons playoff selection team/community cookout). I go, so physically I am in the room, but as I sit clutching my Protein Shake watching everyone else chew their meals, I'm not enjoying myself, I'm just feeling jealous and bitter. (Partially because I had to help prepare this food that I can no longer enjoy in some of these cases.) my husband and I went to see the new Halloween movie this weekend and I cried through it...not because I was scared but because the smell of the popcorn was driving me crazy! I want to stick with this and lose the weight so that I am healthier and more active but I don't want to be this miserable all the time. Does it get easier after surgery, like once you finally transition to normal foods?
Also. when it comes to goal weights, do you have to listen to your PCP in order for the surgery to be considered successful? My husband and I have always had a goal weight of 130-140 in mind for me but, because I am only 5'1" my PCP claims I need to be 115, which I don't feel is realistic considering I haven't weighed that since the 4th grade. If I manage to pull out of this funk and get myself together, I want to know what number I am looking for and what my actual goal is.
After surgery it gets much easier...just stick to the diet and 115lbs may be obtainable...dont forget your protien...very important...start trying them now...I recommend Unjury

I did try the Celebrate ones when I got them. They’re not great but if I have to do it I guess I have to. My dr didn’t want me taking flintstones, I think because, like you said they’re not what I need.
Nutrametrix...isotonix...work great, tastes good

For what it’s worth, I bought the Celebrate Vitamins (chewable w/ Iron, tropical flavor) and I find them disgusting. Sometimes they make me gag but they were expensive, so I’m forcing them down. Flintstones taste way better but not as comprehensive of a Multivitamin. Not sure what I’ll do when the Celebrate are gone....
Nutrametrix works great, its isotonix, taste good too

I’m 8 days post-op. If you are like me the thought of another Protein Shake makes you gag, try it warm. My doctor required us to use the Bariatric Advg. I warmed about 9 ounces of unsweetened vanilla almond milk and added the chocolate shake powder. I could almost convince myself that it was hot chocolate. I thinking drinking it hot may get me through the next 6 days until I reach purées.

Thanks for the tip! I was actually thinking that I would try that this morning but wasn’t sure if it changes the composition of it. I was going to add a few pumps of sugar free pumpkin Syrup, my dr said it was fine, and make it like a latte! We can dream right? Lol

I’m 9 days post op and can’t wait to eat soft food next week!!!!!

Hey Katie this too will pass. Even if you feel like garbage at least it's not warmed over and the wild dogs refuse it! At the bottom any step has got to be upward! Besides we 💕you and believe in you, you'll still be a success!

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
