Gastric Bypass-No Weight Lost

Recommended Posts

Think this might be mine as well. On preop 2 weeks got down to 254 then apparently pms bloating back to 262 on surgery day. Now week post-op pms over back to 254. Nothing lost in over a week. Averaging about 500-600 calories. Maybe need to add another dose of Protein as I'm just getting my min of 60 in a day. Just not hungry

My bypass surgery was 8/10. I haven’t lost for 5 days. Walking 30 minutes/day, Water at 64-80 oz., 300-400 calories, and taking Vitamins. I don’t know what else to do?

I had Gastric Bypass on August 8th and since the day I came home (August 10th) I have not lost 1 lbs. I get my Water and Protein in. I have walked every day aside from 1. I have tried to read everything to figure out why, but I can't even find anyone else this has happened to. Did it really not work? Is that even possible? I have been doing everything I can on my end so why is this happening? I seriously don't think I can face anyone if after all this I still can't succeed.

Please don't stress about this. I stalled out after I got home from the hospital as well. In fact, I didn't lose much at all my first month and now I'm 7 months post op, down 132lbs. Your body essentially goes into starvation mode after your pre op diet and your first few weeks. I didn't find the loss picked up until I was back to eating a "normal" bariatric diet. This too shall pass, and this is NOT indicative of how your long term success will be.

This makes me feel sooo much better! Thank you so much.

I didn’t lose anything the first 2 weeks. You are healing. Give it time

Not to get personal but are you on any kind of hormones? In the beginning I had a hard time losing weight and I had the nexplanon birth control implant. Once I got it removed I started losing again. I guess my body didn’t like hormones. But also consider what everyone else is saying about the fluids and healing. It will start coming off. Keep fighting the good fight. Best wishes

I've had the Mirena IUD for 11 years, but removing is definitely not an option. I am going to increase my Water from 70 to as much as possible. Ash said not to stress it's normal so I am going to relax and see what happens.

Oh no! I wouldn’t tell you to ditch it. You’ve been on it for 11 years with no side effects so I’m sure it’s fine. Mine was just torture and gave me further issues upon removal. My body doesn’t like hormones and luckily for me I’m not dating so being without it isn’t an issue. Hope you see results soon! Wishing you the best! Also, consider taking measurements, sometimes the scale will get you down

I did consider I may be losing inches and not lbs, but I hadn't taken measurements since June, so I honestly don't know. In my head I have lol.

I actually gained right after surgery. I just kept walking and did it as often as I could. At first I did 4, 15 minute walks then 4,, 20 minute walks .. I just pushed a little more each day. My surgery was in April. I finally started losing in May. My doctor told me my body was in shock. Keep moving, it will come. I started at 282 and today I am 199.8. I am 56. It is possible.

Try not to compare your journey too others. We all lose at different rates. Also you may lose inches and not weight at times. Hang in there. We are here for you.

Mine was slow-ish also but it will happen. There's a lot of bloating, gas, and Constipation that could be to blame. Try not to focus on the weight loss right now-look at how little you're eating now, it will show up on the scale eventually. Hang in there :)

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
