Pain tolerance and how you feel is different for each of us. Your team will take good care of you to manage it. You will have pain meds at the hospital and when you are sent home. The nursing staff had me walking the hallways the day after surgery. At home I was instructed to continue walk and had lifting restrictions. Walking helps the healing process.

You will be given your specific instructions when you are sent home.

BTW - I bounced back quickly. I expected pain and it goes away with time. You can listen to all our stories/examples but your experience is going to be unique to you.

Walk bent over and cry.

Joking , a little.

I was a slow recoverer (not healer) I did everything for myself but was I was in no way at the top of my game biking, hiking, sexing etc.

I was able to get out of bed alone, use the bathroom, clean my jp drain , shower slowly, boil Water for tea, wash three dishes, mix Protein powders, give up Bone Broth, cry, reread Ender's Game, sit upright on the couch, walk around the house aimlessly, vacuum, tiddy the bookshelves / medicine cabinet but if something fell, it stayed there...

BTW I was sleeved (for some reason I can't see which forums I'm participating in until I leave them...sorry)

First week; not much. Just relaxed. Week two; I could clean, walk, go in the pool, run errands, etc

Personally, I found that the first 2 weeks that were initially discussed with my Dr was healing time and then you are good to go. This was not so for me, I was literally sick, weak and didn't feel like doing anything. I returned to the hospital in a couple of weeks and had my gallbladder removed because I was so sick. If you are having this surgery allow yourself more time to heal than the doctors say, it is your body and a life changing surgery.

I was able to tend to myself but now at 12 days out, it's still uncomfortable to bend over. I don't want to screw anything up before my FMLA is up (I have 4 weeks) so I am not bending over, picking anything up, or pushing my mom in her wheelchair. I can cook, clean the kitchen. I'm not doing laundry or vacuuming.

I’m 4 days post op, I can pretty much go to the bathroom on my own, walking , the stairs was no problem for me (just easily tired)
I can shower on my own (which makes you super tired nonetheless).

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
