September bypass buddies??

Recommended Posts

Hello,

I am scheduled for gastric bypass September 6th in Tacoma Washington. 6 days into preop diet and it is getting easier. I have to agree with Frustr8 that I am more concerned about life if I did not do this. I just keep reminding myself I want to be here for my grandchildren.

Shoregirl75,

I have 1 small meal for dinner. Very low carb and lean meat.

I'm jealous! Mine is full liquids only for 2 weeks. :( Best of luck to you on your surgery!

So I had 5 hours of pre admission testing today and I had most of my questions answered. I received a dine out / medical alert card, my incentive spirometer, my Hibiclens and Cleansing cloths, and my pre-surgery ensure drinks. The program emphasizes using whey Protein isolate (which I learned today that I don’t have-oops lol). I bought an Unjury protein starter kit, and 2 flavors of powder to make Protein Powder. Everything is pictured (two of each powder flavor, thermometer, shaker bottle, one vanilla shake, and one chocolate shake). I was not given a pre op diet. Basically from now on I NEED to hit my Water intake goal, walk daily, and eat protein, veggies, watch my sugar, and watch my carbs. I’ll use my protein powder (not isolate) as a Meal Replacement option pre op as well. I’m almost done! Next appointment is with the surgeon 6 days before my surgery. RnY scheduled for 9/17/18

Got my surgery date October 26th so the count down starts. Going in I was going for the gastric bypass but my Dr informed me that I have a Iron deficiency and the gastric bypass can bring your blood down even lower to a point where I would have to get iron infused by an iv once a week so I said no way. Ill start with the sleeve and if my acid reflux gets too crazy even with meds then ill think about converting. I'm so excited and scared at the same time. Is there anyone else's surgery in October?

I think the "celebrations" of Christmas and birthdays , thanksgiving etc are going to be a challenge. It will be good to support one another through those times

We will take tastes of everything, a spoonful or 2, no more stuffing a turkey drumstick, under our shirt to eat later. And guess what, this time we will have time to taste but also enjoy each, others company. Pretty doggone cool,i do think!

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
