8 days post op & barely feeling the restriction I felt even two days ago. Normal?

Recommended Posts

I'm very nervous that something is wrong or my body is defective. I cant help but notice each day liquids go down more quickly and greater amount with zero problem. I haven't been nauseated, I haven't thrown up at all and I had serious restriction right after surgery up until day 5. Now on day 8, feeling hunger pains. Could I have stretched my pouch even this early and only on stage 2!?

Really nervous? Call your team and see what they say. Likely no problems but you could slow down a bit and not push the limits of your brand new machine (by drinking too much too fast) and create a problem.

Hunger is tricky, it can be mental or physical (acid reflux or real hunger), PPIs and the next stage will take care of that.

Safe Journey!!!

It’ll change once you’re on food. We all freak out a bit 😊

Liquids were only difficult a few days for me. Within the first week, I could take big swallows. Now, weeks later, I can easily gulp 4-6 ozs of light liquids before coming up for air (not saying we should). I still can’t handle more than 2 ounces of food chewed to purée though. Not without being super uncomfortable. And, boy, am I grateful!

Hoping for the same.

Liquids *SHOULD* go through through you... That's a good sign, means your swelling is going down. That'll be why you are getting some hunger as well, those aggravated nerves are healing up and getting back to their normal jobs. Your body isn't defective, wait for those foods and you'll get some restriction again.

Im only 3 days out post op and I can take down 2OZ of Protein Water like a pro. I got to the cottage cheese and chewed that up hardcore but even at the same 2OZ I got so full it made my eyes cross.

I felt the same way after surgery. Around about 3-4 weeks post op that started to change. It takes awhile to heal and I feel like that’s when I got the “full” feeling. Also starting on regular foods fills you up faster.

I had surgery 6 days ago and feel the same, hungry (not just "head hunger", real tummy growling empty stomach hunger) and worried the surgery won't work for me. I hope the introduction of solid foods will change that though because I feel hardly any restriction when taking in fluids.
Tomorrow I have my one-week follow-up where they will bring let me start phase 2 of my diet. There's a noodle-less lasagna recipe I've been dreaming about. I can't wait!

That is often a symptom of too much acid. Are you on a PPI?

Ppi?

An acid reducer, like Rantadine, Pepcid, etc.

I requested liquid meds if available in the hospital. My surgeon wrote me a Rx for a liquid antacid but my insurance didn't cover it and it was over $3000 a month, so my boyfriend picked up some OTC Prilosec instead. I went to my one-week follow-up appointment today and my doctor prescribed me a stronger antiacid, that combined with eating 1/3 cup cottage cheese (my first phase 2 food) has helped my hunger problem. :)

I felt the same and freaked out too, day 1-3 it was painful having just one sip of liquid then for the next 2 weeks I could drink fine and didn’t feel full and thought surgery hadn’t worked... I felt the same on puréed stage too with not feeling full but just measured out food, once I was on proper food I became one of those people that couldn’t eat a whole egg. I’m 7 months post op and have never felt nauseous or thrown up at all.

Thanks for posting this, I read it several days ago and I’ve been reminding myself that others experienced the same thing when I’ve been worrying that even after I graduate to puréed and eventually solid foods I still won’t feel any restriction/fullness. I’m two weeks out now and I’m still on liquids only until 8/20, and between being able to drink 4-5 oz of Water no problem and hitting the infamous two week stall slightly early my anxiety about whether this will work for me has been escalating. Even though my anxiety often refuses to respond to reason, it’s helpful to be able to remind the rational side of my brain that this is normal.

Was this true for those of you who did bypass as well as sleeve??

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks
