Eating Out and Travel

Recommended Posts

Hello friends,

You guys are the best, so I wanted to ask about eating at restaurants. I sometimes travel for my job, it's normally in the spring but I have a 2 day trip next week. I am only 4/5 weeks out and I'm still on eggs, oatmeal, mashed potatoes, etc. By the time the trip comes, I'll be able to have shaved deli meats and cheeses. What do you recommend when it comes to eating at restaurants? I'm worried about, let's say they go somewhere and I can get scrambled eggs. Will what they cook it in make me sick? How do you know what they are cooking your food in if it's not grilled salmon for example. Will certain oils make me sick? I really don't want to dump while on my trip or while traveling.

Thank you all!!!

Well ask before you order about oils or how it is cooked, ask for soft scramble. Soup is always a good choice as long as it is not greasy, not french onion, etc. chicken salad as a scoop, an appetizer like meatballs, cottage cheese and fruit, etc.

I worry about Soups though. I'm allowed mashed potatoes and baked potatoes so I tried a potato Soup and it had me dumping. I worry about the hidden sugars in the foods as well.

This is exactly why I waited longer to return to work... because I wanted time to figure foods out after I was cleared to eat them. I still don't test the waters while I'm out... That said, I've had no issues eating out at this point. Find out what you can tolerate now, that way you know when you end up out and about.

So, I'm sleeved, so it may be different. But I travel extensively for work. I have no issues whatsoever. Nothing bothers my stomach, I eat a very wide range of foods. My first business trip was 3 weeks post op. I would never recommend anyone else to do this, but I accelerate my stages, and only avoided raw fibrous veggies that week. I've traveled most weeks since, without issue.

I've thought of this, I will hit lettuce and cooked veggies right after my trip next week, I may advance those and try soft cooked veggies a day earlier. Since oils don't have sugar, will they make me dump?

I have never dumped, most sleevers don't. So I can't help with this.

I suggest eating the purest uncomplicated food from the menu, like lemon butter salmon, black bean Soup and garlic and herb chicken ,etc. you can estimate what is in it. But things like any house Pasta Sauce, seafood stews and crab bisque and creamy saucy chicken dish ... Proceed with caution!
They can vary by recipe and restaurant , ingredients will be hard to nail down . Eat at your own risk... I did (it was dessert) at a very fancy French restaurant and paid the price , I have a sleeve and unfortunately I can dump.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

So proud of you Cat. Getting into those smaller size clothes is half the fun isn't it?. Keep up the good work!!!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

I may have to have gall bladder surgery during my weight loss surgery. Not thrilled about it either but do not want 2 recovery times. Just want it over with.

Thanks for your post. I may need to rethink my decision... :(
