Has anyone else tried the impossible burger yet?

I tried it. Was not impressed. It was dry and gritty. But that might have just been the location we were at, as I've heard that other people really liked it.

I have not but I NEVER eat at Burger King. I have never been a fan of BK. Even back in my fat girl days of eating fast food. Whataburger was my go to fast food burger joint.
FYI in case some of y’all haven’t tried this, Morning star has an awesome chipotle black bean burger!
The best burgers are the ones my hub makes me at home on the grill (of course bun less) but they are sooo good!

No, but am intrigued. Googled to see how much it costs here...and its 5 TIMES the cost of real ground beef by weight. Man, saving the planet is expensive.

Edited to add: ok...now I found that Burger King Canada sells it as a cooked burger, for roughly the same price as a regular Whopper. Something doesn't add up here...

🤣

Does it taste like beef to you?

I made one for my BF a few months ago and he swore it tasted like meat.

Then he had one at a restaurant and it was very big, I forgot to take a pic because I was shocked.

He asked me to taste test it first because he didn’t know if he would be able to tell if there was a mix up & was given a beef burger 😅 (He said oh well and dug in anyway)

Ice Cream 🍨 (Häggen-Dazs Pralines and Cream).

Served myself 1/3 cup, but after a couple spoonfuls, I could tell it was going to give me a dumping response, so quit while I was ahead. Ate a little less than half...put the rest back in the freezer for another time.

Hey there!! Question: I had a Lap Band revision to sleeve on 3/15/21 and never experienced dumping with my LB. What are the signs that you get if you feel like you are going to have a dumping response? TIA!!

Same as @GreenTealael. But when i feel ALL those things its too late.

The first thing I feel is my heart rate increasing. If I stop as soon as I feel that, I can avoid all the other symptoms. Most times I stop. Sometimes I don’t 🙄

I tried an Impossible Whopper (before my surgery). If I didn’t know it was an Impossible Whopper, I would have thought it was the real thing. Now, that is with the consideration that I don’t think Burger King burgers are very good, so basically, I thought it tasted like a crappy fast food burger. Not sure if I could have been fooled into thinking it was an actual restaurant meat burger (but I’m sure it would be cooked better at a good restaurant, too).

Ladies, I'm not easily impressed but, I have to tell you, if someone organized what you have contributed here in recipes and pictures, with a pleasant binding and a cool name, no one can stop you from producing a best selling book.

Oh. It ain't me babe. Just saying.

yes. Granted, I haven't eaten ground beef in about 20 years, but I started eating burgers occasionally again when Beyond Burgers and Impossible Burgers came out. Maybe if they're plain you'd notice a difference - but I put lettuce, Tomato, ketchup, light mayo or light Thousand Island dressing on them, and they taste just like a burger to me. I've only had an Impossible Whopper at BK once since I don't do fast food, and I couldn't tell the difference (although those have a lot of "fixin's" on them, too).

I have one friend who's been a vegetarian for 30 years who tasted one once and said she'd never eat it again because it tasted like beef to her, and she's lost all her taste for meat over the years.

Yum! Do you have a usual recipe? Please share if you do😋😋😋

I'm terrible at following recipes

Meringue

4 egg white

1 cup white sugar

pinch of cream of tartar

bit of vanilla

In a mixer blend all ingredients until soft-stiff peaks form. Spoon on to parchment and make a bit of a depression in the middle. I get 6 per 4 egg whites. Baked a 300 degree oven for 45-60 minutes. The texture can either be crunchy like a meringue cookie or crunchy shell & marshmallow-y in the middle, your choice. You can make a day or two prior assuming you don't have high humidity

Lemon Curd

I use a variation of this:

https://sallysbakingaddiction.com/how-to-make-lemon-curd/

I use more zest, and 1/2 cup of lemon juice

Can make this days ahead of time

Berry Sauce

I buy frozen berries, sometimes raspberries, sometimes mixed beries. I simple cook down on the stove top, andd sugar to taste & strain

Can make the day before

Berries

Strawberries, Raspberries, Blackberries

Whipped Cream

I use an ISI whipped cream dispenser. Heavy cream, tablespoon or two of powdered sugar & vanilla.

This can stay in the ISI dispenser for days

Falafel! Veggies fritters (spinach, carrots, zucchini etc)! Wings!

(No recipes from me, I usually just google a few versions and wing it)

Also fab for when you don't feel like cooking. It's great with convenience foods like frozen breaded fish, TJ's meatless orange chicken, frozen samosas, spanakopita, egg rolls etc..

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

That sounds awesome. I'll have to check that out thanks!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
