First taste of alcohol was 1 month post-op, lol. Wasn't much though. Started drinking semi-regularly again once in maintenance (7 months po).

coffee, on the other hand. Was drinking Decaf every day for first 1-2 months, then regular ever since. I can't live without coffee. Or salad.

I think i'm going to wait longer on the drinking thing but it would be nice to have one on special occasions.

Did you have any side effects when you started drinking regular? My doc said it could be harsh on the stomach.

No, none at all (but we are all different!). The only thing that doesn't agree with me in term of ill effects are large amounts of sugar at one time.

Back on the meal prepping (yay!) and today’s lunch was jalapeño and bell pepper chicken burgers with an endamame salad. Finished the rest a couple hours after.

Omg @MarvelGirl25 I would eat at your uncle's restaurant every day #yummie

Same!! I've been to a fair amount of Peruvian restaurants and your uncle's food looks super fancy!

Going back to a previous post of yours @MarvelGirl25. I eat out professionally a lot. And how little I could eat, and how much it was noticed and commented on was, for me, the hardest thing about WLS. But as time went on I could eat closer to normal portions, and the comments stopped. So it won't last forever, just know it's temporary.

As far as alcohol. I had my first drink 3 weeks post op (work situation). But after that I mostly swore off alcohol during my WL phase. It just wasn't worth the liquid calories to me, they add up fast. But I also didn't deprive myself. I had a few drinks my birthday week, or when someone bought a really nice bottle of wine at dinner, and on vacation.

Thanks! And I'm jealous! Even though I can eat it at home or from fam, I still wish there were more around me. I love trying other versions. Where I live there's only 3 spots (not counting my uncles) and two out of the 3 are not authentic. Also, its hard to find the ingredients. When we don't feel like cooking we drive 4+ hours to Patterson, NJ to eat because there are TONS of Peruvian places. There are bakeries, Breakfast spots, chicken spots (this requires explaining lol), Chifa spots (Peruvian Chinese), Nikkei spots (Peruvian Japanese), etc.

I feel you with the eating out. I used to eat out all the time and now Ive grown to hate it. Ill try to remember its temporary, but right now it just stinks. The other day i went to Korean BBQ with a few friends and they noticed. To make myself look normal I mostly ate pork belly. Its cut so thin I was able to trick them into thinking I was eating the average persons portion. Thats when the comments stopped.

I'm thinking Ill do the same. Drink on special occasions or when I get closer to my goal weight. It seems like that what successful maintainers like yourself and others have done. Its almost my birthday so maybe Ill treat myself to a glass of wine or a mixed drink. So far I haven't heard of anyone experiencing horrible side effects so that gives me some relief too. :) Thanks!

Um, my second drink ever after WLS was a lemon flavoured soju/sake drink (this was about 2 months post-op) I had about 1 fl oz and I had my very first dumping experience. It was horrible. I dunno if you are prone to dumping, but my tip would be to be mindful of the sugar content in any mixed drinks you want to try....

Yesterday's Dinner:

Coconut Sweet Potato Curry w/ Keto Bagel chips.

The chips would have been better if they were thinner, and were pretty filling, or maybe I just felt bloated after, not really sure. Ate all the chips, and about 2/3 of the curry.

Oh noooo... Thanks for the warning! I'm assuming me throwing up is dumping? I dont get the usual symptoms of dumping like the racing heart, sweating, or going #2. For example, when i went to my uncles and ate the flan and that purple mazamora I ended up throwing up when I got home. I think it was the sugar since I just threw up the Desserts.

Hahaha. Felt so decadent this morning I had to take a pic. This is my "endulgence" LOL. A decaff espresso Keurig pod with 1.5fl oz fat free Mootopia (Fairlife in Texas) frothed with ground cinnamon.

@FluffyChix I am currently enjoying a new hot beverage myself!!! I cracked open a SF Salted Caramel Syrup Mr. bought me, and OMG its effing delicious.

1/2 of leftover black coffee (about 10oz) + Green Tea Bag w/ 10oz more Water + 1/8 cup unsweetened almond milk + 1 tsp SF Salted Caramel Syrup (though I will probably make it next time with 1/2 teaspoon to make it less sweet...)

Ah, you're lucky you don't get the regular symptoms. Though throwing up DOES still sucks on its own.

For me the absolute worst dumping symptom is the death feelings after the "expelling" of the offending food (weakness, lethargy, nausea, head spinning...sorta like a horrible non-alcoholic hangover) that lasts for like an hour or so.

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.

Some days I feel like an infiltrator... I'm participating in society as a "thin" person. They have no idea that I haven't always been one of them! 🤣

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL

Still purging all of the larger clothing. This morning, a shirt that I ADORED wearing ended up on top. Hard to let it go, but it was also hard to let go of those habits that also no longer serve my highest good. Onward and upward!
