Thanks for all your advice, friendly ones and not so much. Yes I know I got myself into this and can anyone truthfully tell me you didn't slip up once or twice since you've made this decision? I did call my dr and he told me I've done fine, just be sure and do my best to stick to the liquids for the next 7 days. Fortunately, unlike some of you (Jazzywoman) not so sympathetic readers, he didn't crucify me for making a mistake. I thought this site was friendly and helpful but I guess thats only as long as you are PERFECT and follow all the rules exactly.

I will probably move to a different site now, I noticed someone has already moved my December 17th date off the list but thanks to you that were supportive!

Lets all calm down and play nice . . . there is no need to move to another place . . . and as for the dates on the list not having your name on it, someone updated a very old list . . . my name is no longer on this latest one either . . . You need to feel comfortable say/asking/wondering anything you want to. I go on another side that has a general board and then lapband/rny yadda yadda yadda . . . and OMG the people on the main board that don't agree with you let you know it . . . I stay off there now . . . just go to the lapband area. You are more than welcome here, in my attitude . . . there is so much good information available here . . . it would be a shame to not take advantage of it!

STILL GONNA BE A MERRY LOSER!!

Hey there, don't worry so much! My doctor decided not to put me on any diet before surgery, he just told me not to gain anymore weight. I had surgery this past Friday. The Wednesday before, I went out to my favorite restaurant with some friends, and we ran up quite a tab. On Thursday, I had no food after 4 p.m. because I had plenty of food the night before.

My surgery went "excellent" in the words of my surgeon. He didn't kick me out of the surgery room, or any other horror stories I have heard. I actually told him about our dinner Wednesday night ... all he said was "it better have been good" and laughed.

Be happy about your upcoming surgery and there's a ton of good info on this site!! Stick around :)

GrannyK, please don't move to another site just because of what a few people said. I sent you a private email and as you know I had a few days when I cheated. This is a MAJOR life style change. Everyone needs to remember the overeating is not just about being in control or sucking it up, in most of us overeating goes way beyond NOT BEING ABLE TO SAY NO TO YOURSELF. I think that anyone who has made it to this stage is on the right track and taking responsibility for their health. I have days when all is well and I feel strong; then there are those days when I feel weak and mess up. We ALL have those good and bad days. Let's just be there for each other and support each other through the good and the bad.

Additionally, I think there are a couple of members who owe you an apology. You were asking for help and their replies were lacking and callous. gg

Sorry, I just kinda got on my high horse for a minute when I felt I was being criticized. I know we are all in this boat together - Thanks again for the support

Thursday is the BIG day!! I am getting sooooo excited. And a little nervous!

I hope all the newest bandsters are doing well in their recovery! This is going to be a great Christmas. I have done well so far on the pre op diet of Optifast, I really dread not having anything to eat or drink the day of surgery. My surgery is not until 3:30pm and I have such a dry mouth from my normal meds and I guess the optifast. I have decided to go on to work for 1/2 day so I can keep my mind off of the drinking thing.

grannyk-hang in there, we all have our days. Or else we wouldn't be here at all!!

Jodie :)

Ok, I'm no expert, but I was on the pre-op diet of Optifast 3 times per day for 4 weeks - YES 4 weeks. It is not an easy diet to follow and no matter how much you want this op it is hard not to fall of the wagon ocassionally - after all if I didn't have an eating problem I wouldn't need the surgery!!.

I fell off the diet a couple of times and on the day before surgery I ate 'real food'. I followed the hospital instructions not to eat or drink anything from midnight. I had a BMI of 61 when I started this journey. I had a standard op - no drama's etc.

To those who are on the pre-op diet, all I can say is hang in there - but if you slip up one day, pick yourself up and tighten your belts and start again. Life is not perfect, and we can't all be perfect, no matter how we try. If you have been able to stick to your diet without any slip ups then well done, if like me, it all became too much just remember a new day means a new start and you now know that you need to find some way to cope with the head hunger.

Good luck everyone.

Danna

I found out Thursday that I start my pre-op diet this Wednesday. I've been following a 1200-1500 cal. diet for the last 6 weeks and have lost nearly 10 "official" pounds. Since Thursday I have been eating almost like I used to. I have not said "no" to myself because I'm kinda freaking out about the pre-op liquid diet I am going to be starting. I know this... but I still feel powerless to stop and it's really odd when I'm sitting here knowing exactly what I'm doing and why I'm doing it... almost like looking through a window at someone. Our minds are such weird creatures. I know that once I start the pre-op liquid diet I'll be as good as I can be and I am almost looking forward to it at this point. I know that it's only 5 weeks until I can start eating regular food again... not a lifetime... I'm almost like a crack junkie... don't take away my foooooooooooooooooooooooooooooood..... ;-)

Hi All,

My surgery in 5 hours, I have to be at the hospital in 3! I'm super nervous, but I believe I'm semi-prepared thanks to everyone here! I was a full liquid diet for only the past two days, and nothing to drink after midnight last night. I've lost 5 pounds in the 2 days, which I'm not sure is entirely possible so I'm thinking it must be Water weight.

The hunger has been hard, usually only between Noon-5pm that I struggle with it the most. I found I didn't want to do a thing this weekend because I couldn't eat. I felt unhappy and that nothing was worth doing because I was hungry and I felt drained. I was getting in 40g's of Protein recommended by my doctor through Isopure and shakes, and taking a chewable Multi-Vitamin and my daily Calcium amount - but I was still feeling very lethargic. I'm hoping after the surgery this will change or I will get used to it! 10 more days of full-liquids to go!

Anyways, I will definitely post more after the surgery! I CAN'T BELIEVE IT'S FINALLY HERE!!!!!! AHHHH! :D:):D:)

Sorry, had to do that. Bye for now!

Four days post surgery. I am sipping as fast as I can and getting NO WHERE near the goal of 60 - 80 grams of protein or the 64 oz of liquids. I just feel FULL. I don't know if it can still be the gas build up (I would think by now that would be gone) but it is a struggle to drink. And so far I have not had the nausea or spasms and don't want to wander into that territory by pushing too hard with liquids. I about passed out today as it was my most "strenuous" day. Went from second story to basement for shower and I was sure I was going to pass out. Looking back on my last few days I have had a total of less than 1000 calories. Am I just not getting enough nourishment in me? Once again a friday where I can't get ahold of the doc until Monday rolls back around so I am hoping maybe someone here has some experience on how to keep energy going. I do have fibromyalgia too and that may be where some added fatigue comes into play. How did you all fair with the goals the week after surgery?

2 days until I fly out to San Diego to have my Bypass Surg. in Tiajuana Mexico. Not gonna lie, the nerves are starting to surface. I don't fear the surgery itself, or the fact that I'm traveling alone, but its the aftermath that I'm stressing about the most, after this 8 week wait. I'm excited to finally be here, but I am really dreading the post surgical chapter. I know its going to be tough, real tough and I think I'm just in my head to much now that the day i here. Wish me luck, Hopefully I'm one of the lucky ones, and everything goes smoothly. Cant wait to give an exciting update,. If there is anyone else have a June bypass or even a recent one, Id love to have someone to compare war stories with. Also, anyone near San Antonio Tx? See ya soon with the future me. 💜

I'm in Houston so kind of near you and had the sleeve in Dec. Down 61 lbs. Feeling better. Was definitely worth it. I hope the everything is going well for you. Update us when you can!

I am back home after my bypass surgery in Tiajuana. I'm post op day 4. Everything went great! I guess I'm one of the lucky ones who have not encountered much pain at all, no nausea thus far and I'm having no problem keeping down broths and water. Thank you for your well wishes. I cant wait to keep up this journey and have a chance at better health and simply better quality of life. I know there will be bumps in the road ahead, and everything won't be peaches and cream, but at least I have a great start so far. 😍

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

I'm so happy for you! You are about to change your life. I was so glad to get the sleeve done in Dec. I didn't have feelings of regret overall. And I'm down almost 60 lbs. I do feel a little sad at restaurants. I can barely eat half a kid's meal. I get adults meals often because kid ones don't have the same offerings at times. Then I feel obligated to eat on that until it's gone and that can be days. So the restaurant thing isn't great for me. All the rest is fine by me! I love feeling full with very little. I do wish I could drink when eating. And will sip at the end. Just a strong habit to stop. But I'm working on it! You will do fine! Just keep focused on your desire to be different. Not better or worse. But different. I am happy both ways but my low back doesn't like me that heavy. So I listened (also my feet!). LOL! Update us on your journey! I'm not far from you. I'm in Houston. Good luck and I hope it all goes smoothly! Would love to see pics of the town you go to for this. I've never been there. Neat you will be traveling for this! Enjoy the journey. Take it one day at a time. Sometimes a few hours at a time. Follow all recommendations as best you can. 💗

Thank you so much for your well wishes. I am hoping that everything goes easy for me as well. We don't eat out much as it is, so it wont be too bad in that department. Thankfully. Also, I hear you regarding your back and feet!! I'd like to add knees to the list. Killing me as we speak! I'm only 5' so the weight has to go. Too short to carry all this weight. Menopause really did a doosey on me. (😶lol) My daughter also lives in Houston. with her Husband and my 5 grand-littles. I grew up in Beaumont, so I know Houston well, I will be sure to keep in touch and update you on my journey. I may need some advice in the future, or just motivation. Thank You so much for reaching out, I was hoping to connect with someone in the community. I really appreciate it. 💜
