Anyone go to the hospital alone?

Recommended Posts

Anyone take a Lyft or Uber or cab to the hospital or home? I know this sounds silly, and I could ask a friend or family member to get me there, but why if it's not needed? They plan on coming and saying hello to me when I'm out of surgery in the hospital and post op at home. I'm just wondering if it's "weird" or a big deal if I just handle it on my own (as long as I'm not driving myself obviously).

I didn't for this surgery, but I have in the past. My hubby stayed home to get the kids off to school and by the time he got to the hospital, I was already in surgery. Didn't bother me, but I'm not much of a Nervous Nelly.

Most hospitals require you have someone go home with you upon discharge because you are on pain meds and you need to be safe. But i have been in surgery while my mom went out to run a few errands and she came back in time while I was in recovery.

From my experience, i had someone drop me off and some one pick me up. I didn't have any one stay with me during my 3 days in the hospital. However, my hospital wouldn't discharge me without someone picking me up. Which was understandable. :)

I had my husband drop me off. The hospital clearly found it odd - they asked who was there with me a few times. I was fine with it though, I would've felt awful making someone wait 6 hours for me to go through prep, surgery, and waiting to wake up.

I told my husband to go to work. My mother in law dropped me off. My husband came and visited me that evening and picked me up the next day.

As some have said they really want a responsible adult to pick you up, but if you are really against it you can always sign out against medical advise. They can’t require it.

I had my mom drop me off but I didn’t allow her to stay. She dropped me off in front and came back home to sleep. I told her I will text her once my surgery was over and I had my pain under control. That Monday she did just that and stopped by around 4pm and I noticed she was super stressed and worried so I asked her to leave and told her I didn’t want anymore visitors that I will text her when I was cleared to go home and she could pick me up.

My sister was with me the whole 2 days I was admitted. She never went home. I'm glad because I was in a lot of pain so they drugged me up and i don't remember half the things they told me but my sister does.

Sounds good. I think I'm just going to have my good friend bring me to and from. Makes sense that they wouldn't want you in a cab...

I work at a hospital and some insurance companies will not cover your stay if you sign out against medical advice.

This or they will deny future appointments, medications or procedures because you’re a liability. I have had many patients leave AMA and they don’t get prescriptions, doctors appointments etc.

most of the time if the procedure was done and deemed medically necessary they will cover your stay but it’s the future you have to worry about

I took a Lyft to the hospital. But I'm being picked up later today to go home.

I took a Lyft to the hospital. Really seemed unnecessary to me to have someone drop me off. I was bored out of my mind in the hospital, so I definitely wouldn't want anyone to stay there with me.

I did have someone pick me up. But even that seemed excessive. I had planned to Lyft but they insisted on picking me up. Needing someone with me to be discharged was never mentioned. And although I did have a ride home, I really don't think the hospital would have taken issue if I had take a Lyft home.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

So proud of you Cat. Getting into those smaller size clothes is half the fun isn't it?. Keep up the good work!!!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

I may have to have gall bladder surgery during my weight loss surgery. Not thrilled about it either but do not want 2 recovery times. Just want it over with.

Thanks for your post. I may need to rethink my decision... :(
