I'm done...I made it

Recommended Posts

I have tried twice to "practice" doing the liquid diet because I have to do it for 10 days before surgery. I have not been able to stick to it. Maybe it will be different when I have no choice. I seem to be eating more right now too, I don't know if it's nerves or because I know later I won't be able to eat. Anyone go thru this?

I went through that just before I had my band. I felt like I had to have all the last supers before my band. Don't worry do what you can. It will help if you at least try a full day on liquids before the surgery so you will know you can do it after the surgery.

Yep, I sure did. My surgery is scheduled for Wednesday and I have a 7 day pre-op diet. Although I ate more than usual the week before I started on it, once I started my pre-op I didn't look back. I'm so pumped and ready to go .. I think that's my motivation. You'll do it too.

Thank you Longhorn I'll find out if it works now... and hope you all feel better soon after being banded.

It looks like you also posted the code in your avatar. You can change that to something else, if you want.

Patty that is great! WOW you came home the same day!?! My Dr. told me Friday that I will be in overnight. I am waiting to hear when my surgery date will be. Praying it will be before the end of the year, my insurance covers it all if I can get it in before Jan 1st. I have my Endo. Thursday morning. And all the other things will be scheduled on Monday.

Hope you are feeling better every day!

Hi Patty, You were just banded on the first and already you've lost 37lbs! that's awesome! did you lose it before the surgery? Can I ask you how you did it? I'm getting banded probably in the beginning of January and I've been trying to set myself up to eat better now that I've had all the testings etc. - For some reason the past few days I thought I was eating as if every minute of the day was my last supper - what mental frame I was in! Today I'm waking up and realizing I'm going to gain weight if I keep this up and I don't want to feel worse than I already feel as being so overweight and feeling so bloated. I would love to hear how everyone loses so much before their surgery - what do you eat? I am making a chicken breast, no skin/vegie Soup right now as we speak so I can eat it all night if I get uncontrollable hungry horrors!

I started Nutrisystem at the beginning of the year, lost some, then lost some more on the 2 week pre-op. I have lost 47 pounds since the beginning of the year now, I just don't know the pin number for the ticker. I guess I have to make another

shadst83 - What a great positive attitude! Wishing you the best on Wednesday!

awww, thanks. I made myself work on some difficult projects today at work, or I would've been bouncing off the walls. My co-workers would have wondered what the heck is up with me since none of them knows anything (insert diabolical, wicked laughter here) :biggrin1:

Now she could've kept that remark, couldn't she? Oh well, a year from now the healthy, energetic edeva will have the last word. :(

Eveda, I know exactly what you are saying about rude people, that's why I'm not telling anyone, the only ones that know are my husband and my closest girlfriend, and that's all (and I have friends and family that I'm close with too). I chose this because I don't want to hear everyone's opinions and comments, isn't it ironic how they all have opinions and are experts when it it's all about you? This is a very personal decision we have made and we need to have supportive people around us, that's why this group is the best! We're all in this together. Sometimes I think negatively self-centered opinionate people are just so miserable with themselves - you know "misery loves company". hehe!

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.
