Protein powders or shakes

So I know the shakes are easy to grab and go but most have milk and I am milk intolerant. I handle premier protein just fine. But do people also buy protein powders on top of the premixed drinks? They are all so pricey and I want multiple flavors. My surgeon provided tons of smoothy recipes for them but need different flavors of protein mix. But did not know if premix would work good to

I make my protein shake. I used fairlife milk which in our group some people who are lactose intolerant do well with because of the way it’s filtered I’m told, plus it has 13g of protein per serving, I use sugar free carnation breakfast essentials and whey protein powder and make a shake and it has 49g of protein. They also have unflavored protein I’ve seen that you could mix in other things to still get it in. I have a hard time drinking it all in
