Pain killer alternatives

Recommended Posts

What is most commonly prescribed for pain after surgery? And how long was everyone on them? I'm asking because I'd really like to avoid taking opioids. Anyone use any alternatives in states where it's legal? If so what did you use and how didn you use it?

I was prescribed Tylenol with codeine both for my VSG back in 2011 and recently for my RNY.

i find that this particular medication is not that effective for treating my pain but alas, the pain is tolerable

Tylenol for after everything is healed. DO NOT take ibuprofen, Aleve, Naprosen, Aspirin etc.this can cause perforations at the staple sites. I work in an emergency department and I cant tell you how many times I have seen bari patients come in with abdominal pain only to find out they were taking NSAIDS

I didn’t get or need any pain meds after surgery. I just took Tylenol when needed. I was 3 days out yesterday and didn’t even take those.

I can't speak from experience, but maybe look into CBD oil. They sell it in preloaded vape pens or refillable cartridges. If it's legal where you live there are THC & CBD options that are targeted for pain

i haven’t gotten surgery yet (hoping for a july date) but am opposed to taking pain meds. i’m also allergic to codeine, which is what i’m sure they would give me otherwise. I was thinking that i would like to order some CBD oil/lotion (legal here in MA), does that seem like a good idea? have other people done that? if so, is it something i should ask the surgeon about or just do on my own

I’m a CBD oil distributor. It’s easily digestible, great for anxiety and relaxation, which is half of the pain battle. It is also helpful for pain. Doctors are indoctrinated NOT to like it because they don’t understand it. If you’d like info I’m happy to provide my site info. My email in karenatcbdbiocaredotcom. It’s legal everywhere as it is and agricultural product and contains no thc.

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
