Hey all,

I am getting sleeved on 21st and I have a question about the Hair loss. I am assuming that facial hair loss will be in the picture I was wondering if any guys that have gone through it with facial hair. I have a nice full beard and am not looking forward to losing it :( (but C'est la vie). I was wondering how bad other guy's facial hair loss has been and when it started and stopped (and any other info on this subject you think could be helpful). Thanks in advance all!

Oh I am a girl, but do you mean that perhaps I could lose my facial hair instead of my head hair? That would be awesome!! :D

Seriously though if you are concerned about that, you might want to start taking Biotin supplements right away. I am hoping if I have a good supply in my system prior to surgery I might not be as deficient of it as I would be otherwise and possibly stave off some of my Hair loss. It is an experiment though. I don't know if that works and I have not seen anything online that says it helps. I do know it can't hurt. I have butt length hair and would also prefer not to lose a whole lot of it if I can avoid it at all.

In my life PCOS stands for Pretty Crappy Outlook Sweetheart as well as the traditional meaning . Ever since menopause I could grow a goatee on my chin if I didn't watch out. And the few times I didn't wax, pluck, or shave, it's gray whereas my head hair never did. I did not drew the winning ticket in the Life Lottery. And the girls in my family for the last 4 generations start sprouting chin hair at 27.😪👎

It's my understanding that the hair loss comes during the next natural shedding cycle . Everyone sheds at the end of the "telogen" phase, which is approximately every 3-4 months. it depends on when your surgery is with correlation to your next telogen phase, as to when you will experience hair loss. mayo Clinic indicates that this is hair included in this phase are "scalp and longer for hairs on the eyebrow, eyelash, arm, and leg". Therefore, I'm not sure if beard hair is included. I honestly don't know if beard hairs shed. Hope this helps.

I will definitely talk to my doctor about the Biotin, thanks a lot!! I have had to quit my normal Vitamins a week prior so I will see about getting on it ASAP after surgery.

My surgeon says taking zinc regularly after surgery is key to keeping your hair (the hair you want that is)

I'm a few days over 3 months since my surgery and I can report no abnormal hair losses, beard or otherwise.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!
