5 weeks out and started lifting weights, it was a very light session but it felt great. Never liked this whole walking thing.

I started lifting too, at 3 weeks. Never had lifting restriction by doctor because operation was through belly button. Do about 30mins cardio 30mins lifting. Its great.

That’s nice, mine doc told me 1 month, so I gave an extra week because this stubborn internal stitch doesn’t want to leave me.

Where exactly is this mysterious internal stitch? I have a sore spot beneath my lower left ribs, but I thought that perhaps I'd pulled a muscle twisting to get out of bed.

Mine is on the right side of the belly button half way up and down. Usually this incision will have an indentation like something is pulling in. This incision is the main source of pain after the gases go away. At least it is for me

I think the surgeon puts reinforcing stitches in there to support the muscular wounds until they heal, from what I've read on here when it finally released varies from a couple weeks to a month or more. Since I am pre-surgical I will find out how it is for me afterward. I am expecting surgery in a couple weeks so we will see how,my,own case turns out.😛

Thanks for that Pete. I don't think I have this stitch, as I have no indentations and only very minor pain. I haven't had to take pain killers since 3 days after the op.

I hope your pain eases very soon.

I stopped pain meds around day 4, the incision pain is more bothersome than anything. Like if I sit for too long leaning forward than when I stand I feel it, or when getting out of bed. But at this point I am almost 6 weeks out it is more annoying, I tried to do some abs at the gym and IT didn’t like it so I stopped. I am thinking about naming IT. Any suggestions???

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
