after i eat like three bites or so, (i am on week 3, which is slowly transitioning me from mushy to solids) it gets stuck in my throat. this may be TMI and I am sorry, but everytime I burp I feel as if the food is stuck and starts coming up, then I swallow it again. it’s very annoying and it always happens, but i feel like i am not full. any remedies?

You might need to either take smaller bites, or just stop after two bites at this stage. The sleeve is VERY restrictive with solids (versus allowing liquids to move through more easily) especially so soon post op?

I had the same issue with that stage. It goes away. Use baby spoons and chew 50 times before swallowing. Stop when you get that feeling and go back once it clears. I ended up putting chicken flavored Protein Powder in mashed potatoes and made them extra runny. In about a week or so you’ll forget you had this issue. Your body pretty much had liquid only for a month if you count pre op diet. It’s just readjusting.

I am 2 months out today and that is still my “one bite too many” signal. I just try to eat slower so that I can tell when I am full before I get to that point. It takes some time, but really pay attention as you eat and you will start to recognize the signs. Also, measuring my food really helps. Good luck!!

Hi Molly,

Food getting stuck and burping are your body telling you “too much food” for the tiny stomach so soon.

I was doing the same thing. I found that tiny bites, like you're feeding a baby, don't get stuck. I also found softer foods are easier. No matter how much I chew a piece of turkey, cottage cheese or eggs are easier on my stomach. If something is getting stuck, I go back to softer foods and then reintroduce the food a few days later. I repeat in my head, "Slow and steady wins the race."

Aw man, this happened to me today at lunch — very dry leftover ground beef from tacos last night. It stuck in between for HOURS. Not. It was frustrating, tried to cough it up, gave up, forgot about it. :-)

I can relate. 3 weeks post op and I feel like everything gets stuck after I swallow. I have tried everything suggested by the surgery team but its not working. Seems like I can only get down Greek Yogurt, Fine curd cottage cheese and FF refried Beans. Other than that I feel sick all the time like food is just stuck and wont go down.

Hope you can find some relief soon

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

I may have to have gall bladder surgery during my weight loss surgery. Not thrilled about it either but do not want 2 recovery times. Just want it over with.

Thanks for your post. I may need to rethink my decision... :(
