I just wanted to start a thread, in case anyone has questions about the process, for someone who is actively going though it, while it’s fresh in my mind.

It’s like I blinked and it was over. I am in very minimal pain, and not even experiencing many of the issues with gas we all hear so much about.

I was so nervous, and emotional, and here I am on the other side! I want to help anyone who could use some insight :)

Oh! I’m sooo glad to hear you’re doing great after so little time! My sleeve is the 10th and I’ve been freaking out about how long it will take to feel better, the anesthesia, just the whole surgery thing in general. Can you just tell me what the whole thing consisted of? Of course my doctor and nurses have told me, but it’s not the same as hearing it from someone who had it so recently.

Congrats! Very kind of you to offer info! I was wondering how you take the pain medicine? Is it liquid? Do you grind it up?

Awesome! I have Kaiser and live in the same area as you. I just got my notice for orientation on June 4, then 2-3 weeks later I start 12 week Options classes. I wanted to know how long from your orientation till you had surgery and how did you like Dr Chin? He is one of the surgeons I could be assigned to. Also, did you have to do a pre-op liquid diet and if so how long?

Are you back home now and how are you doing?

Thanks!

I took advantage of the morphine in the hospital.... they sent me home with liquid Hycet which I took for a couple days, but no longer need it.

Cool! I am happy to help answer any questions you have :) I was so curious about SO many things along the way and wished I could talk to someone in the same kaiser region as me.
My first class was in November, it ended in feb, but because of the holidays, we had a couple extra weeks thrown in there. I lost about 26 pounds during Options classes and really tried to take advantage of any cancellations to get in with the psych ASAP. I met with Dr chin on 4/20 and was scheduled for my VSG 5/2. The end definitely progressed faster than expected.
At the pre-op Dr chin was pretty cold, I was taken aback by it actually and didn’t feel any warm and fuzzies for him. Surgery day was a totally different story. He was cherry, smiley, and totally in his element. He was great pre op, and post op, and visited me twice. He was also great about updating my BF after surgery. I would totally recommend him. he’s a surgeon, he’s not going to give you a warm hug (which might be nice considering it’s so scary beforehand [emoji23]) but I have no regrets going with him!

Message me if you want! I’m happy to chime in about my experience along your journey!

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
