Soooo, I have to vent about this because this doctor has seen ends amounts of records of my health history.. and after my initial visit with him says ‘ I don’t think you should have surgery’
His theory is if I use metformin (which I’ve never taken in my life until meeting him today for the first time) along with the diet and exercise that I should lose just fine and be able to maintain no problem..
What have some of you dealt with as far as getting not one ( a referral) but two (having a new doctor agreeing with this surgery?)
I’m 3 months in with the process and I’m hearing this now? Kind of makes me want to give up and just pop another pill (metformin) to lose weight? My goal here is to not only be a healthy weight but NOT take anymore prescription medications

You could ask your surgeons office to refer you to a Pcp that works with them. Maybe in the same hospital. I'm in a weird state where everyone knows everyone. Maryland is tiny liberal and doctors are completely fine with people doing what they want with their own darn bodies

I was prescribed Metformin to counter PCOS years ago, and it did go some ways to reducing my weight (though obviously not enough). It's a pretty common prescription if your doc thinks you have PCOS, so might as well check with him to see if that's why he prescribed it - to be honest, if you don't need surgery because the Metformin worked, that's not a bad outcome to try instead of surgery.

The multivitamin I have to take each morning is absolutely the same size as the Metformin pills I used to take, so you'll be taking a big pill either way.

The only thing I mentioned to him OB related was the miscarriage I had less than a year ago and how heavy my period was after that (they’re not heavy anymore). I then told him that my OB told me that my miscarriage could have been weight related (one of the reasons why I want to lose this weight) is to have at least one more baby before I can’t have anymore.


Far as PCOS, I’ve never been diagnosed with it. He did blood work and everything came back normal except for iron levels(they were extremely low)..the good news is, I’m not diabetic ?‍♀️
