So I am 4 days into my 2 week liquid diet and my surgery is scheduled for April 25th. I have always been an avid Water lover. But lately due to not being able to eat I am just craving something to taste. I have my sugar free popsicles and Jello. My low sodium chicken/beef broth but it has just not been cutting it for me. I also have crystal light and mio but they have too much of an artificial taste for my liking. My liquid diet has to be Clear Pre-Op. On the list my nutritionist said that Powerade Zero is okay. I am in love. It satisfies my tastebuds but it also helps me get my liquid in which fills me up. It has electrolytes and B Vitamins and this paired with my premier 30gram Protein Shakes, multi Vitamin, and Calcium vitamin I am set for the day. I'm getting all my Protein and my Fluid (I also drink water, and have Decaf coffee mixed with a shake).

Has anybody else gotten hooked on this stuff and does it still taste as good to you after surgery? I work in the health care field and I see how detrimental dehydration can be so that is the one thing that terrifies me and I was hoping this might help if I cannot get water down so easily after surgery. I drink it at room temperature as well.

Everything that I drink or eat takes awful. Water, Powerade. eggs, chicken have no taste. I tried salt, pepper and even a dab of ketchup on the eggs.... no flavor at all. Then chicken my family says tasted awesome but yet I cannot taste it. Will this change? I cannot drink cold beverages it has to be room temp or hot.

If you like Powerade Zero, you might like Mio Water flavorings. One thing that's nice about Mio, is that you can keep it in your purse and refill your water bottle anywhere.

I really hate the mio drops and the crystal light, they taste very artificial to me so I gave them all to my husband, it was sad because I had some great sounding flavors!!

Plus mio has sugar and calories even though its low quantity.

I only had a day of Clear Liquids before surgery, but I went through two big Powerade zeros. So tasty! I haven't had any since surgery (4/4).

I lived on Powerade zero during my pre op and early post op. Now I have one weekly or so, I prefer mio drops due to the convenient way to carry and all that.

I'm still pre-op, but I used to get muscle cramps in random places head to toe so six months ago so I started drinking a 32oz bottle of Powerade zero each morning on my drive into work, replacing my first cup of coffee. Once I get to work I have one cup of coffee, so I've halved my caffeine intake. Then I fill the empty powerade bottle twice with Water to drink throughout the day so I get 96oz of liquid before I even get home and I hardly ever cramp up any more. Now if only I could convince my boss to move my desk closer to the restroom...

(FYI, I also started taking potassium supplements to help with the cramps.)

I am having surgery tomorrow and just tried a Powerade zero a few minutes ago. I am surprised, but it’s really good.

I stocked up on Powerade zero for post op and couldn't stomach it after surgery. Just be prepared for your taste buds to change , especially when it comes to artificially sweetened drinks. All I can tolerate to date (6 months out) is Water and iced tea with Splenda. Anything else is sickeningly sweet.

Thank you maybe it is the Crystal Light I mixed up with. I'm still not a fan of the artificial taste but my husband is love drinking it up for me.

I like that and the Vitamin Water Zero acai-pomegranate-blueberry flavor. I tried the Propel but didn't like it as much. I had trouble drinking cold water last week and found out I was dehydrated and my doctor said my pouch was becoming "sticky". He suggested hot teas and broths and 4 liters of IV. The hot teas do help a lot, but now I find that ice cold water still bothers me a little. But the cold Vitamin Water Zero does not bother me as much. Best of luck to you!

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

That sounds awesome. I'll have to check that out thanks!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
