Surgeon Uses Endoscope To Determine Sleeve Size

Recommended Posts

My surgeon says that they are going to be using an endoscope to create the size of my sleeve. Has anyone else had this way of measuring sleeve done?

I'm confused are they using the endoscope to see how big the pouch that they made during a VSG is or are you having an Endoscopic Sleeve Gastroplasty (ESG), where they create the pouch using a suturing machine at the end of the endoscopic camera. The idea being that if they do the surgery from the inside with no external incisions that it is much lower impact.

The surgical group I work with routinely uses a disposable 36fr bougie. However on complicated cases they have been known to use an endoscope instead of a bougie as it provides direct visualization.

Is it common, no. But it's not unheard of.

Of course this is very often on revisions or patients who have had/have a lap band in at the time of their procedure

My surgeon says that instead of a bougie to create the pouch they already have an endoscope in me so they will use the endoscope to measure/create the size of my pouch (pouch will be the size of the endoscope).

Having gall bladder surgery in a few days and I so hope the recovery is easier than the one from the modified DS! I could use a bit of luck/pep talk for a change. I'm starting to be able to walk around without experiencing dizziness, but it would be great if the random pain in my chest and abdomen would go away!!

      Today was rough...
I've been experiencing a headache all day today that just won't go away. I'm thinking it's now progressing into a migraine. Does anyone else get headaches from taking vitamin B12? I did some research and learned that usually a lack of B12 causes headaches. But I've noticed when I take it, I have reoccurring headaches. 😫
