Well, drat 🙁. My doctor had to reschedule my appointment to next Tuesday because he has to go back to the hospital this afternoon. He must be on call or something. I was getting really excited, too!

Oh, well. At least I can still go ahead and get the stuff I need to make healthier meals. I kept telling myself today is my last carb day so I think I should stick to it. Thank goodness for Sam's Club lol, eating healthy is expensive!

Oh man! That suckstits. Well let us know on Tuesday how it goes!!! Yes it is expensive lol

Nothing cheap but nothing outrageous either. My favorite is Whey+ by Legion Athletics. You can only get it online but all of the flavors are great and the calories are low. They also have an unflavored powder that you can mix in soups/broth and yogurts!

I'm wondering if that might be the way to go. I feel like it would be less expensive to buy an unflavored powder and then just add that to other stuff - Soup, yogurt, possibly Water and crystal lite, assuming that doesn't make it taste nasty (do they make Protein Powder you can mix in water instead of milk?). I think regardless I'm going to have to get the powders and mix my drinks just because of the cost. I'm hoping that will be less of an issue by then but I'm not counting on it lol

You can mix almost any Protein powder with water, they just generally taste better with milk. There's also an unflavored protein called GENEPRO that is used by tons of bariatric patients. I haven't tried it yet but it costs about the same as the Legion brand. The unflavored won't be any less expensive than the flavored but you are able to get more creative with it and get more bang for your buck.

Try Quest. I got my at GNC 32 servings for $29.00. 24 grams of protein and their banana rocks 100 calories and tasted amazing I’m shocked. Less than $1 a serving. Perfection. Tastes like fresh mashed banana. Yea!!

Thank you both for the advice! I will look into those options when the time comes. I'm getting way ahead of myself right now lol but that's how my brain works, and at least I'll know what I'm going to do when I need to do it. I think between Amazon and Sam's club I'll be alright.

So I'm just going to copy this straight from Facebook because I'm on my phone lol, but the first step is complete!

"Woohoo first step completed!

I meet with the nutritionist on Tuesday, and I have a followup with the surgeon for next month. If I've lost weight and proved I'm serious, he'll start the next steps. I have to have another egd to determine the cause of my reflux, and if it's just obesity, I can have the sleeve. If it's something anatomical, it'll be the bypass. Pretty sure there is something anatomical but I got myself locked out of the GI doctors patient portal and I can't quite remember. Once I get logged in I'll know for sure. Still have to do the egd but at least I can prepare myself mentally.

He is quite stern and very much "my way or the highway" but I feel like that's probably good for me right now. He also said once we're committed he'll be there every step of the way, and after."

I see the nutritionist 5/3. I know the principles of what shell say already. I'm really trying to get started on my own but I can't get the "nope, I won't be able to eat that in the future, so I'll eat it now" thought out of my head. I know it's all that stuff that got me where I'm at today - but sometimes I feel like I have no control.

My whole life, my dad's side of the family showed love through food. Great big family gatherings for no particular reason - my grandma made the best white bread, baked Beans, cookies... Anyway, I'm doing well with breakfast: three egg omlet with varied stuffings depending on what I have. lunch is ok: I'm working towards a salad a day.

Then there's dinner, where I completely undo all of my hard work from the whole day... *Sigh* try again tomorrow...

It's hard. I stuffed myself with all the bad foods right before my appt but then I had to tell myself "no more" and then I went shopping and only bought healthy stuff. If I can keep it out of the house I can do it. The only other time I've lost a significant amount of weight was prepping for surgery. I had external motivation. I had to prove to *someone else* that I could do this. And then I gained it all back and then some when the surgery fell through. And so here we go again lol

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
