What is everyone’s pre-op diet like? Mine is just two weeks.

Breakfast : Protein Shake
Snack : Protein Shake
Lunch : Protein shake
Snack : Protein Shake
Dinner : 3oz of lean meat and 2.5 cups of salad with fat free dressing. BUT I find this to be just a freaking tease!!! I mean come on! How can you expect me to eat just that for dinner when all Iv had all day we’re Protein Shakes? !?! So I honestly have been skipping the food and just drink another Protein Shake for dinner.

I get 4 protein shakes a day and raw veggies. No broth, no Jello, no meal. It's terrible! I feel like I'm on a fad diet all over again. I'm trying to take it a day at a time. Yesterday I almost caved though... if I only had to do this for 2 weeks I'd be almost done! :'(

My pre op liquid diet is for 2 weeks. I can only eat cottage cheese or Greek yogurt 3 times a day. I have to drink 3 Protein Drinks a day. Unlimited sugar free Jello, Popsicle or broth. And today, my last day was Clear Liquids only. At 4, I had to drink citrate of magnesia. And I have to be at the hospital at 530 in the morning.

They are only letting me eat that little bit of food at dinner time. Oh and I guess sugar-free jello and cucumbers are a All day “freebie”. Then the day before surgery it’s only clear liquids all day.

Good luck on your surgery!

Wow! That’s rough! But you can get through it! Mind over matter!

You wanna know what my cheat snack is? Dill Pickles! If you like pickles, they seriously help! There isn’t really much in them nutrition wise, so they make a good cheat snack! I told my doctor what yesterday that I was eating them and he was totally cool with it. I drink my Protein shakes like normal and every time I get that strong hunger feeling like I can’t take it anymore...I eat a pickle.

And if you don't have a mind , it don't matter. Very old punch line from comedy routine.[emoji3]

I get that vibe too. I guess us newbies need to stick together!

This pre op diet is not easy. And the sudden onset of "second winter" where I live has made it SO much harder! Being outside and active all day was helping pass the time faster. My pre op diet allows for raw veggies, and 3oz of lean meat. Though I have found that having that small amount is more of a tease than anything and just makes me more hungry! So I've been sticking to just the shakes and trying to drink a lot of Water. 8 days to go... surgery on April 11th!

I'm not sure if it's the same for everyone, but the hospital I am going to does not tell you your surgery time until the day before surgery, which is driving me nuts!

That’s Crazy! They told me...April 11th - 5:30am Check-in and 7:30am Surgery.

The weather is the same here too! One day it was like 70 degrees and beautiful and then the next day it was seriously SNOWING! Now it’s just been cold and shitty.

Lucky!! Not knowing is driving me nuts. I would just like to be able to plan things for that day so i know when I need to leave for the hospital. My information packet says the surgery schedule is not finalized until the day before, and a nurse will call between 3-6pm the day before to tell me my surgery time! Ugh!

Well that just sucks! I was told about my surgery like 3 weeks ago! And a nurse from the hospital called me that same day to do the usual information and questions talk.

Hi! I feel kind of guilty but also kind of happy my pre-op is only 2 days. My surgery will be on a Monday (hopefully soon!) and I have be liquid only for sat and Sunday until 8pm, then only Water until midnight.

But welcome! I felt like you too and stalked the forums like a creeper for weeks before putting on my big girl pants and joining in the discussions.

Wow, only two days! That would be awesome! Which surgery are you having if you don’t mind me asking?

Thank you for the welcome! Iv been chatting a little bit more. It’s a lot easier starting your own topic and then hoping others join in.

I am having the sleeve done. I also don’t need to do the puréed stage. I have 10 days post op liquids, then straight to stage 3 soft foods. I meet with the surgeon on Thursday to hopefully get my sign off and then schedule my date :)

It’s cool to see how other Bariatric Surgeons work. I’m having the Sleeve. I have 2 weeks pre-op liquids. Then only a few days post op liquids. Then like soft foods for a few weeks and then normal foods again. My doctor says it all depends on how your body can handle things. Everyone is different. Congrats on the upcoming scheduling!

I noticed when I went to,my seminar that OSU goes through the usual sequence with sleevers but RnY bypasser goes from liquid to soft, no puree level for us "kangaroos"(because we have pouches). Found that rather curious.[emoji11]

Can I ask you why you went for the sleeve? Lately I've been debating if the bypass is the right choice for me... idk know anymore! Anything that'll be successful, I guess!

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!
