Any MAY sleevers???

Recommended Posts

Won't you be able to go to soft foods in a couple of days? It is really hard my family keeps eating all this delicious food in front of me and I still feel hungry, lol. My stomach has been growling and making all kinds of weird noises lately.

Yea! Starting tomorrow I can have puréed foods. Can’t wait!

My surgery was yesterday. Today I'm back in the hotel and completely exhausted - I think 4 days now of no solid food + no caffeine is not helping! Pain isn't bad, just have to be very careful swinging my legs on and off the bed, etc. Tomorrow I go back for the barium swallow.

Good luck, everyone!

hang in there, it gets better day by day. By day 3 I was chomping at the bit to get out of hospital and get back to doing stuff at home, as I was going a bit batty roaming the halls in the hospital. I actually discharged myself a half day early (my surgeon wanted me to stay 5 days/4 nights) because I'd had enough of broken sleep with buzzers going off over night and had been taking all medications orally for 2 days anyway so I REALLY didn't need to be there. The staff weren't overly keen for me to leave ahead of surgeons instructions but once I stated that I was choosing to go home in a few hours anyway they were really good at sorting out my medications to take home and getting me the discharge forms to sign etc. (they were probably sick of seeing me walking back and forth down the hallways constantly by then anyways).

Today I could start introducing a few things. I could have loose mashed potatoes...but no milk (only almond, soy or lactose free skim), no cheese, bitter oil or margarine. So I made a small potato and used chicken broth and non fat Greek yogurt. They tasted pretty good. Of course that coming from a person that has been on clear liquid for about 2 weeks. (Surgery May 7)

I have a question, don't mean to get off subject but I was sleeved on the 8th and down 8lbs already. Did anyone get the glue on their incisions? If so, did you pull off the glue or did it fall off? I had my one week check up yesterday and the Dr told me that I can pull it off in the shower. I did manage to pull 2 of them off but Im scared to do the rest.

Sent from my SM-N950U using BariatricPal mobile app

I have glue...surgery May 7. Mine is starting to come off a little but doc said not to pull.

I had a rough first night which meant I had to stay for a second, so I feel your pain! It gets better and better every day to the point where I barely remember how bad it was that first night. Okay, that's a lie, I can't forget that, lol, but it doesn't haunt me anymore lol! Best of healing and luck to you in the upcoming weeks. If we have bad hospital stays, we deserve easy recoveries!

Its definetly getting better but still got some tenderness around my stomache and sharp pains if I take in anything too fast. Have you started on any "soft" solids yet? Please tell me you have and its a dream...I never realized until I had surgery, TV commercials is overly saturated with food driven marketing. I hate it. Im also getting real tired of this liquid diet too..

Just fyi, theres a great high Protein, very low sugar Ice cream brand called "Enlightened Ice cream"...Its devine! I picked birthday cake at our local Sprouts market...Just fantastic. Its basically a Protein Shake in the form of ice cream but man it hits the spot. Birthday cake didnt have any chunks in it but only sprinkles that melts in your mouth so it was perfect.

I'll be two weeks post op tomorrow. Seem to be mostly over the worst of it, most pain is gone, a little bit of reflux but very minimal and none the last couple of days. I've lost 9.1kg (20.1 pounds) since surgery and a total of 25.7kg (56.65 pounds) since I started my pre-op process which I started three months before surgery. I moved onto soft foods at the 10 day mark, and am on that for the next two weeks. It's not too bad. Definitely mentally tougher than I had anticipated, I'm fairly young (29) and eating out is a big culture here, so the idea of that being significantly restricted in future is still playing on my mind. Would love to meet more Aussies (especially Adelaide based) sleevers - if there are any here hit me up :)

I had my surgery on the 13th May. I’m home and on clear broth and Protein. This is a lot harder mentally than I anticipated. I am hoping joining this support group will give me a more positive outlook.

Just had my sleeve May 14. Sore, but trying to walk and keep the blood going! I’m new here—good to be among friends!

Thank you, I can see that you are doing well. I feel different everyday. Yesterday I felt very positive and today I feel the total opposite. How are your moods?

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

That sounds awesome. I'll have to check that out thanks!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
