Surgery is tomorrow! 3/26

Recommended Posts

Kinda nervous but mostly excited. Trying to remember everything everyone told me. Any tips for right after surgery, maybe some things that worked that surprised you? Or anything people didn't tell you but you found worked for yourself? I'll take any info I can get!

Woo hoo! Best of everything to you tomorrow!

Right after surgery? Pretty basic. As everyone says - walk and sip. and SLEEP! I found that once I got out of the hospital, I was more comfortable at first sleeping in my husband's recliner. I wasn't flat on my back and also felt supported on the sides and was less tempted to roll over on my side.

It seems like it should be more complicated, but I was pretty tired for a few days, getting over the anesthesia.

I'm a big worrier so that helps. And I figured I would need to rest but everyone keeps telling me to keep moving so I'm torn.

Do what you think you need to do to get ready, rest if you can now because after surgery you'll be having it necessary to move every hour or so, keeps the likelihood of blood clots down, gets rid of the gas in your abdominal cavity, and if you are getting enough fluids in you'll be tinkeling lots. One lady claimed she had as many potty breaks as late stage pregnancy and she didn't get a cute baby out of the deal this time. When you scurry around like you are pre-baby they call it a nesting syndrome, what you are displaying now? Tying- up-loose-ends-itis, for lack of a better name. Ah kid ---we do[emoji173]you bunches!

sleep when you can! My hospital routine was sleep, sip, walk, pee. The only thing I can mention that was horrible for me was ice Water. It felt like knives! Room temperature was so good.

I’m 6 days post op and have had a great recovery so far. Not to my liquid daily goals, but working on it! Better each day!

Best of luck!!

You’ll need to move just to get that gas out! No other way :/

You’ll do great! See you on other side!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
