Any April surgery buddies

Recommended Posts

I am on the 2 week pre op liquid diet that started Wednesday. My surgery is April 25th. Unfortunately, I wish I could eat pudding and yogurt however my doctor has me on a CLEAR liquid diet which means I am restricted to broth, sf Jello, sf popsicles, mio, crystal light etc. I can have Protein Shakes however but those get tiresome real fast. I am having no trouble meeting my Fluid intake however I am so hungry I'm nauseous and not now. I've been feeling foggy, and occasionally dizzy even though I am taking Vitamins religiously all of the ones my doctor told me to.

Does anyone know of anything I can add to my clear liquid diet to give me a little reprieve?

That is the same as my pre-op that I'm currently on - day 10 of 14. I couldn't find anything additional to eat(and I use that term lightly) but I did make a couple of modifications. I blended my Protein Drinks with ice and made milkshakes with made them a bit diluted and manageable. I also changed the flavors of my broths. I made 'french onion-less soup' and 'wonton-less soup' and then last night made a thai based broth with some lime and cilantro and a tad bit of curry paste.

I love your creativity when it came to the broths! I hadn't thought of going that outside of the box and the different flavors would be a welcome addition to the monotonous clear liquid diet I'm already struggling through!

Exactly. After surgery its Clear Liquids for another 2 weeks. Full liquids for 2 more weeks. pureed for 2 weeks. Then slowly incorporate normal food.

That’s wonderful! It’s a huge relief to be on the other side. They sent me home yesterday. Felt so good to get 3 full hours of uninterrupted sleep. I’m working on my Water and making sure I get up and walk. The rest of the time, I’m sleeping and letting my body heal. Hope you continue with a great recovery.

I'm at the point I hate waking up in the morning because I know I have to drink Protein Shakes. Oh how the tastebuds turn against you. I'm lost because there are so few things I eat until 25th. I return to work Monday, let's the good things roll.

Miss_Tee, have you tried other sources of Protein? I'm curious in what I should stock up on.

Every time I fell asleep, it seemed like a nurse was in messing with me! I just walked in the door of my house and I’m going straight to my own bed!

Getting the fluids down is harder than I thought it would be. But you have to just keep telling your self that your body needs them! Plus need to get the Protein intake going too!

Sip sip sip takes me 2 hours to get a water bottle down Today I drank 2 1/2 Water bottles and one Protein Shake I have 1 1/2 water to go and at least one more Protein shake. Tomorrow I’ll aim for 3 Protein Shakes and 64 oz water. Also I’m walking 10,000 steps at home.

I tried Protein Water, not a fan. I get some protein from greek yogurt and egg whites. I don't have problem drinking water, I love it. I can only get 1 shake down a day. Ive tried all the favors but I just can't stomach more than 1.

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...
