sleeping on stomach after surgery?

Recommended Posts

Hi all,

Well tomorrow is the big day, and I am nervous as all hell. Ive been on practically not eating at all for a week, because i find not eating is less horrible than eating Optifast.

Another question i thought of, for those that have been recently banded, how long after surgery is it likely i will be able to lie on my stomach again? I tend to sleep on my stomach and will probably find it very difficult to get to sleep on my back.

thanks for any insights :D

I am 3 weeks post op and can sleep on my stomach. The fist 2 weeks I was still a little too sore to but that has passed. Good luck.

I was banded Oct. 18 and I have already started sleeping on my stomach. At first when I get on my stomach it is a little sore, but soon goes away. I was dying the first two weeks because I couldn't get on my stomach!

It will depend entirely on you and your incisions (and your gas) I've heard people say it was weeks before they could lay on their sides even. But the day after surgery I had no problem laying on my stomach with a heating pad under my tummy and watching TV.

So hope for the best, but prepare for the worst. How are you on your side? My first night I slept on my side with a big pillow behind me and another one in front of me (with the heating pad draped over it, held close). It was super-comfortable.

I was a couple of weeks after! I also sleep on my stomach so for me laying on my side and placing thin pillows against me helped alot!! Good Luck!!

I laid down on my stomach two days after surgery. I was sure it was going to hurt but my husband was going to give me a massage to see if that would help with the gas. So I tried it and it was the most comfortable position I had been in since the surgery! I actually fell asleep for a few hours but I don't normally sleep on my stomach so I eventually woke up and changed positions. It felt so good, I did it the next night, too!

I am day 6 post op and slept on my stomach the last 2 nights. I have to find the right postion but once I do I am in heaven. Now if I get rid of the damn gas..thats what is hurting my stomach and shoulder the most.

I was able to sleep on my stomach a few days after surgery as well. However, I found the port a bit uncomfortable at first. Not painful just weird. I found it helped if I lay with my hand cupped over the port area for a minute or two then I could pull my hand out from under me and I was fine.

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
