Obesity: The Post Mortem

Recommended Posts

WARNING: Not for folks who have a weak stomach....

But for those who are biologically curious and don't find watching surgery upsetting, this is a fascinating look at the post mortem exam of a significantly obese woman who donated her body to science.

You can find it on Netflix if you'd rather watch on your big TV, or here's a link to watch on your comp:

It's seriously ironic that the pathologist doing the post mortem is morbidly obese...and wow, she only weighed 238lbs at death and was 1 inch taller than me... :( :57_cry:

Karla isn't heavy. Mike is pretty overweight, but I'm not sure he's morbidly obese?

Right. The girl is normal size. But the doc looks very overweight to me?

Autopsy gowns are not flattering. He's a big dude, no doubt. Really tall, too. But given there's no specific mention of him having morbid obesity, I guess I wouldn't be sure about it. I'm sure he's somewhere on the obese BMI side of things, though!

And hell if I know! LOL. He might be. But you know me...I'm a sticker for documented fact. I can eyeball him and say...yep, dude is large. But I haven't seen him on a scale. I'm being nit picky.

Apple..I'd watch it at work...but I work with weirdos, so... LOL:)

Apple you're glad you're getting a sleeve, i am equally glad I will get my RnY, I'm older than her so I'll be faithful to any liquid, prediet I get put on! Yeah remind me later,if I start whining. I want a liver that leans toward anorexia instead of a soccer ball. I should put a still shot of her on the pantry and another on the fridge. She was shorter than me but 80,pounds lighter. I heard the alarm bells going, off, did you?

Ok. I watched the whole thing in a couple sittings. It was intense to see, but confirmed what I knew pathologically about being morbidly obese.

That was interesting to watch. Sat through the whole thing and never got bored but it was sad to see.

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
