Compulsive Eating

Recommended Posts

Hey Jonathan. I definately can go overboard but never really considered my self as a compulsive eater. I do sometimes get that feeling though that I am missing something great in the world if I don't eat it all. I try to rationalize and say it will be good later. 2 oreos now, 2 tomorrow is still 4 oreos. But then I just have to eat the 4 (or more) right away b/c I just can't defer the want. I unfortunately (or maybe fortunately so I don't seek it) don't get the feeling of peace afterwards, I am just so disappointed in myself and guilt ridden. I will say that since being banded I am restricted from this type of behavior since I rarely get a compulsion to overeat cottage cheese (LOL) but the feeling of unrest sometimes rears it's ugly head...I just try to go to bed, or leave the house when it happens................I think alot of us are right there with you buddy. BTW, great to see you here again!

What is this world coming to when even a specified forum isn't safe from spamming?

Geesh

I have been reading this site for a long time but today is the first time I have read anything that hit this close to home. I have compulsions from hell sometimes. I had fill number two on Weds and now have enough restriction that I can't binge anymore. I am doing my best not to eat things I should not. It is still tough. Been to therepy some time back for these problems but didn't seem to help. Been thinking of trying a journal.

Any thought on that anyone??

I think a journal is a great idea. If you're honest with yourself in the journal you should be able to see patterns and trends. Even if you don't get relief from a compulsive behaviour, if you decide to go back to therapy, the journal will be a valuable tool for your therapist. I started keeping a food journal which has been both useful and enlightening.

I think journalling is great. I've been doing it off and on since I was about 12. In the last 2 or 3 years, I started an electronic journal on my computer. Not a blog because it's a file kept on my computer and not in cyberspace. But I really feel it keeps me sane. No, I'm not on the verge or anything. But, it does help me sort out stresses in my life and help me to see things more clearly. I use it as a coping mechanism for those everyday stresses that can get you down. I keep a separate food journal simply because it's on a separate program on my hand-held/PDA.

Anyway you want, if you think it can do some good and you'll be consistent in doing it.........I say go for it! :typing:

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
