Who didn’t/doesn’t have to do 2 weeks liquid?

Recommended Posts

I didn't have a preop liquid diet, since my surgeon only requires for those with a bmi over 37. Then it's 2 shakes and one lean green meal per day, not all shakes. I did the lean green diet anyways, because I wanted to get a jump start.

My surgeon and I are in Michigan. I do not have to do liquids. Only shakes for Breakfast and lunch with a sensible dinner for the week before surgery.

I'm in Rochester, NY. I only had to do Clear Liquids the day before surgery, and nothing else after midnight.

I don't have to. The nutritionist told me at my first consult that my insurance mandated three months of pre-op diet. Based on my profile and health she said just cut out carbs after breakfast as well as anything carbonated. So I said "Should I just do Keto? ", she said yes, and that's all I've done. Down 17lb in 7 weeks so far. Surgeon also confirmed I will not even have to do a liquid diet in the days leading up to the surgery.

I had two weeks of Protein Shake for breakfast, Protein shake for lunch, lean green dinner, with a clear liquid diet the day before. After surgery it was three days clear liquids, then full liquids, then pureed/mushy foods . . . no real food for a month. I pretty much hated the first month after surgery, but that's when I lost the most weight.

So glad I found this thread! I’m having mine on the 28th and I have to have an all liquid diet for 2 weeks before surgery. My start weight was 251, I lost 20 pounds before being considered so my BMI is now 39%. Don’t know why my dr is so strict when I don’t have very high BMI and no other health issues (no diabetes, no high blood pressure, etc.) Today was day one of liquid diet and it was rough. I can imagine it will become harder and harder as I will be even more hangry. Any suggestions out there?

And it is inching closer and closer! I am So So envious-- things are starting to turn around and but next step is 2 hour psych-exam. Bad news? Not scheduled until April 25th--- nerves fraying with impatience.

My surgery is on the 28th and I am on day 4 of a 10 day liquid diet of 3 Protein Shakes a day and 2 low fat greek yogurts. Two days before surgery clear liquids only: Water, no calorie drinks, Jello and broths. I don't feel hungry but I am already sick of drinking the Protein shakes even though I have several different flavors that I like but only being able to drink these is making me hate them. I try and stay busy so I don't think about it too much. The 28th can't come soon enough.

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
