This might be a shot in the dark...but the title of the post was "Big Ward"...I'm guessing that might be the name of your show:)

I watched quite a bit of it and found it very interesting to see the pre op arrangements and the day of surgery. Some of the "breakfasts" that they were having were scary - probably 2000 calories in one meal!! I have to say, it made me want to go out for a walk at one point because I realised that some of my own choices in the past weren't so different. The fact that we can eat take away food much cheaper than buying and cooking fresh veg / fruit is scary.

Ha! I just found it and watched the first episode while I did my 30 minutes of walking! LOVE it! Thanks for turning me onto it! I was searching for Fat Ward, no wonder I couldn't find it. Was simple when I searched for Big Ward!!

TY!

Watched the whole series the other night (it's quick, as there are only 10 episodes that are each about 20 minutes long). Was a little taken aback by how much I identified with certain behaviors.

I watched the whole first season last night too. Very interesting. At one point when someone had 4-6 sandwiches on their plate I got nauseous. And I felt really bad for Kimiora and her post op Protein Shake ordeal.

I watched the first season too! It was very interesting. I was surprised at the lack of knowledge though... Can't remember the girl's name but she didn't know what red cabbage was. She picked up a zucchini and didn't know what it was called either. I'm glad she's getting help though & learning.

Hahaha! I so agree! Gosh I feel for her and almost all of them! It occurs to me, their naivete and disconnect with real food and inability to cook, is perhaps one of the roots of their form of the disease! Makes me want to figure out how to pioneer a program that underserved people can get cooking classes and shopping mentoring and food delivery of real foods--to their underserved neighborhoods. Like in some of the wards in Houston, we have a food desert--no groceries or easily accessible access to fresh foods. But dayum if there isn't a McDonald's there selling their $1, $2, and $3 menus! And KFC with their $5 meals! :(

We have a Family owned restaurant here in my town. It is called CASY'S"" One of the best foods to get in town. But their servings are way over the top! We used to go there quite a bit. Once and awhile we will get a chefs salad to share and have leftovers so much that we can eat the next day if we wanted. Way to big servings and once you add your dressing it won't keep until the next day and besides who wants to eat leftover salad. NOT ME!! They have or had when I ate there before way to good foods!! Like real comfort foods. But there restaurant is one of the reasons I had to have my RNY. Does it bother anyone else that we are over run with ads from the store? (BariatrcPal) It is getting to be a big issue with me. Anyone else?

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

That sounds awesome. I'll have to check that out thanks!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
