Phentermine after VSG your thoughts

Recommended Posts

It’s been a year and a few weeks since my surgery. Can’t seem to get this last 10-20lbs off for nothing. Considering taking phentermine. Has anyone taken this after surgery? Is it safe? Your thoughts please. Thanks

I've seen others use it. The decision is yours.

Just my two cents

10-to 20 is not a big drop to lose. As we get smaller we have less body fat. The weight loss is slow. It took me longer to lose the last pounds.

I use it when it first came out in my past diet attempts. It was like taking speed. Also back then it was pulled for heart attack risks.

I lean more anti medication...Side effects just are not worth it to me.

Don’t do it. My friend was taking it and had a stroke. She has never fully recovered from it. Change up your diet, exercise routine anything but that. Good luck to you

I wouldn't do it. Why obsess over 10-20 pounds if you are otherwise healthy? Did you take measurements along the way?

I wouldn't do it. I took it years ago for a very short period didn't like the feeling it gave me, not long after taking it I started getting palpitations found out I had a leaky heart valve and now on two heart pills a day, weather the two are related I don't know all I know is before then I never had an issue with my heart. Just step up your exercise and start logging your calorie intake if you stopped.

I took phentermine with success as part of my physician monitored weight loss. I have to say it’s pretty hard core...it’s basically speed. Pros of the drug were that I had constant energy and I never felt hungry. The cons for me were excessive sweating, extremely dry mouth and insomnia. Now whenever I mention that I took phentermine to other physicians or nurses they always seem to cringe. If I were in your shoes I would try other options first like redoing pre-op. If all else fails and you’re still interested just make sure you’re very closely monitored by your doctor. Best wishes :)

I used weight loss drugs in the past, and theyre incredibly effective. The problem is the rebound hunger afterwards. My biggest concern with using weight loss drugs after WLS is if the rebound hunger comes back with a vengeance and screws up a good thing you got going. Whether its by stretching things out or resulting in you developing bad eating habits. I would be extremely cautious.

I wouldn't. For 20lbs ? Go back to basics of Protein protein protein. And. Bite of veg. No processed the last 20 will be off in no time. Be paitent it takes longer the closer you are.

That stuff is the devil...and as it's for appetite control, why would you need that with your sleeve? The close you are to goal, the slower the weight's going to come off. Just do like everyone else suggests and go back to basics, be very strict, avoid slider foods (even healthy ones) and you'll get there. :)

All I do is Protein Shakes and low
Carb [emoji45]. I workout out every day at least 30 mins to an hour, sometimes two hrs. That’s why I was thinking I need to do something else. I guess it just takes time

shake it up! Eat some complex carbohydrates, sweet potatoes, quinoa, Brown rice for a few days. It’ll shock your body and you’ll start seeing a boost. Could also be you’re just not eating enough. Check to see how many calories you should be consuming. Here’s a general idea:

Thank you all for your input. It just sucks seeing the weight come off consistently then all of a sudden nothing. [emoji25]. I honestly think my body has just reached its weight loss limit but I’m not gonna give up.

Just Protein shakes isn't sufficient for you.

More importantly what are your stats, exercise routine, macros, and how are you measuring tracking your macros?

These are all the first things you should be looking at (except stats which just gives the rest of us perspective)

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
