Surgery, “it’s the easy way.”

Recommended Posts

But even if (for them) it is the easy way out, what have they gained if they put it all back on because they didn't commit to the permanent change? All or most of us know the humiliation of having lost and then regained + 10.

That's exactly what I mean.

Or try to convince my PCP I can still weigh the same and have lost so many inches. He gives me a smirky look, he may not believe in NSVs😢

UGH. I read your post and got irrationally mad. It's the reason I didn't tell most people about my surgery beforehand. I don't need your unsolicited opinion on how *I* should handle *MY* body.
Maybe for them eating small portions and exercise worked. For me, I had a medical condition which wouldn't let my body lose weight. So despite eating right and exercising, it wasn't enough.
Next, it isn't about being skinny. It is about being healthy. My body is a car. I want what is under the hood to work well so I can drive it around for years to come. If good maintenance results in a good looking exterior, awesome. But that isn't the main goal.
Finally, f**k her for thinking it is the easy way out. The easy way out is doing nothing. The hard way is:
* Accepting you need help. This one may sound easy but I know that for me, this was admitting that I couldn't handle this myself. It was admitting defeat.
* Saving money for the doctor. Going to classes and education sessions for months to qualify for a major surgery.
* Going on a strict diet prior to surgery.
*Staying on a strict diet after surgery.
*Staying on a strict diet and Vitamin routine for the rest of your life.
So the "easy" way out is an insanely strict diet and major surgery to get a tool installed?
Screw her. Sorry, you touched a nerve here. One of my husband's friends lived with us for about 6 months. He had gone from 350lbs to about 150 after getting diagnosed with type 2 Diabetes. How did he do this? He switched from drinking a 12 pack of regular soda daily to a 12 pack of diet soda. Seriously, that was it and the weight evaporated off of him. I had to live with 6 months of watching him drink a gallon of milk a day, 12+ sodas daily and nothing but fast food, while he'd preach to me about how easy it was to lose weight if I just put in some effort. Meanwhile, I was weighing all of my meals, not touching carbs (or soda) and working out with no results.

Someone needs to kick that guy in the balls...just saying

Only my husband and oldest daughter know. I’m not ashamed I just don’t need negativity and bullshit in my life. Plus, I’m a private person.

I think about women who get an abortion, are they taking the “easy” way? I don’t think so, still they get to make a choice about their body. Why can’t obese people have the same consideration?

I have lost weight the “natural” way. Several times in fact. It always comes back though, and brings along some friends! I can’t even exercise anymore because the joint pain is unbearable. I’m getting this surgery instead of a scooter chair! I’m keeping this private for self preservation.

Yes--I'm doing this because of the pain in my knees. People who suggest I should walk for exercise frustrate the heck out of me--how far would you walk if every single step were intensely painful? So far, I can say that the weight loss *seems* to have improved the situation somewhat--the effects of the cortisone shots last longer. I'm also taking less medication for my diabetes--but that has been fairly well controlled and is not why I got the surgery. Like Zoftig Girl, I'm doing this to avoid the scooter chair.

But easy, it ain't!

Short of tapeworms and sewing your mouth shut, this has been the most intense, all-consuming, and most challenging year second only to 9 rounds of chem, 35 daily radiation treatments, and a double mastectomy. LOL.

Will I lose weight? Yes. And I already have. Will I keep it off? I've bet everything on the win. I'm all in. There is little else I can do to effect lasting change at this point. Do most people have to go balls to the wall in order to lose and maintain? I don't think so (these are the ones who have are normal weight and are dealing with the 5lb turkey day gain). The rest of us battling this fight know differently. This is so far from easy, it's laughable.

I would actually have a superior smirk and pitying laugh at his ludicrous and uninformed opinion.

Zoftig Girl and XYZ Amen and Amen to that worthy sermonette. And I have had 2 knee knee replacements, they still hurt and work 85% efficently. And they still hurt! Tried to talk to my ortho about it, he went into a 3 1/2 minute monologue about how beautifully &, sructurally sound they are. I would kick him in his shin if I could raise, one foot from the floor that far and I wasn't afraid of toppling over. My next-door neighbor has a scooter, even fastens a wagon to the back and takes his grandkids for, rides around the neighborhood. Fine for him, not for me, besides my house is built with very narrow doirs, don't think I could get it in and out. I've been walking on these 2 legs since I was 10 months old, like to keep it that way.👊😝

A little poetry for all of us
Weight Loss Surgery, it's not the EASY way
You have to make a commitment each and every day
Your diet,is forever changed but then so is your body
All those "Nay-Sayers" they are just being snotty!
You wager your body, there will be some pain
But better health and fitness you will gain.
I'm changing my life and lifestyle, that is true
But with the❤and support of my Bariatric Pal friends
I know I'll make it through!
My weight loss surgery is a tool--- not a toy
But each pound I'm losing, that gives me great joy!
Will you join me on my journey towards renewed health?
To know I can now have a future- that is really wealth.
So I walk bravely forward, content with whatever tomorrow will bring
And for me. Frust8 lies ahead my happiness in a Bariatric Spring.
May 5 2018😝

Guess what, I thought I had heard all the weird and pointed remarks against us and surgery. Well I've got a new dig. Do you know why I'm planning surgery? Because I lack, committment. Look I have been chasing the sparkling elusive Butterfly of Bariatric Surgery, up the hills, down the hills, around the bends, across the swamp of "You're old and foolish" with it's quicksand of doubt on either side, through the briars of "We think you should consult another specialist" and even across the rope bridge of " Don't call us-We'll call you" and now when I think I can see my finish line ahead, you tell me surgery means I have faulty committment? And now before I finally have to go through a liquid diet that wouldn't keep a hamster happy and not be proved to throw things? When I start throw things I've already planned my first target? Who will it be, take a good look in the mirror! Now kindly move to one side so I can get on with this mission.

That wasn't from someone on your medical team, was it?

No just a rotten know-it-all relative, if somebody would pack, him up(what a lovely idea) and ship him to North Korea Kim Jong Un would go on vacation in Bora Bora just to get away. Took one look at me and said They tell me you're losing weight where? Then he let fly with the committment dig.Wish someone would have cut his tongue out with a dirty can lid. All I could think to say "Lovely seeing, you too Anthony, sorry to see you're losing your hair.👴"

Omg no way that's horrible, I know how you feel though. I have a "friend" say to me once, you're so beautiful inside and out if only you lost weight ... I was like what if I did! I'd still be the same person. She says you could meet a nice guy lol I've had chances even at my large size that's never been an issue just met a'holes.
Some of us aren't lucky enough to be able to eat whatever we want all the time and remain a smaller size I used to say to her lol Well not even she can anymore lol

Still purging all of the larger clothing. This morning, a shirt that I ADORED wearing ended up on top. Hard to let it go, but it was also hard to let go of those habits that also no longer serve my highest good. Onward and upward!

Well, tomorrow I go in for an impromptu hiatal hernia repair after ending up in the ER over the weekend because I couldn't get food down and water was moving at a trickle... I've been having these symptoms on and off for a few weeks but Sunday was the worst by far and came with chest pain and trouble breathing. The ER PA thinks it is just esophagitis and that the surgeon and radiologist are wrong. But the bariatric surgeon swears it is a hernia, possibly a sliding one based on my symptoms. So he fit me into his schedule this week to repair it! I hope he's right and this sorts it out. He's going to do a scope afterwards to be sure there is nothing wrong with the esophagus. Here's hoping it all goes well!!
