Question on Feelings of hunger

I also get hungry but nothing like before surgery - thank God. The cravings are head games that you have to win.

Cool, thanks for the reply I really appreciate it.

I know bread is one of those things that i might struggle with but like you said, head games, and you just have to win.

That is part of my concern with the RNY, i want to get back into more exercise and i cant get through my mind having a teeny tiny pouch and making that happen.

I wouldn't be worried about this specifically at all. I workout very frequently and don't have issues. Right at first (like 2-3 months out) I had to work at getting the right combination of type of food, portion and timing to fuel my workouts but now it's no big deal. I was so worried about hydration at first too with the tiny stomach but that has never been a problem for me personally. I drink throughout my workout though instead of drinking the whole bottle after my workout. But, I also have no issues when I take a good solid gulp or two of Water in the middle of spin class :)

I had RNY 7/11/17, I have had zero dumping, and can tolerate almost any food, but only in small portions. I aim for tiny portions of healthy food but have allowed myself 1 or 2 bites here or there of a treat. Normally can't eat more than a bite anyway. I have not missed the quantity of food at all, but do miss diet pepsi's considerably. By about the 3 month mark i was able to take in as much Fluid as i would like, i can now easily drink a 20 oz water bottle in 10-15 minutes. I have lost close to 80 pounds in 6 months. I take my Vitamins religiously, drink 80-100oz Water per day, shoot for 80-100 grams of Protein per day, and generally land somewhere around 1000 calories per day (although I do not count calories). Sugar and Carbs do not make me dump, but I generally don't feel very good after eating them so only indulge on occasion. I could have had sleeve or bypass, and honestly chose bypass due to it having long term documented success. I have seen people be very successful with both the RNY or the sleeve, just keep in mind neither is a magic cure, both will require long term behavioral changes on your part to keep the weight off...RNY has made those changes much easier to maintain...as always this is strictly my experience, others will vary :)

Thanks Tarver11, appreciate the reply. I know this isn't the magic bullet but as you say it is going to be the behavioral changes that will make the difference.

Thanks Sadiebug, nice to know it can be done with RNY

just the idea that 6 months after surgery i wont be able to take a good deep refreshing drink kind of messes with my mind

This is false though. I’m drinking just fine less than two months out. Maybe not as much as before surgery but that has more to do with the fact that you cannot drink with meals. You also cannot drink before or after meals...my surgeon says 30 minutes before and one hour after. There will be those times you cannot drink before and after a meal regardless of whether you have a sleeve or bypass.

This is more what restricts my intake than my pouch regarding fluids. That’s at least four hours a day I’m not drinking.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
