Try throwing it into a blender and purée it yourself

My surgeon - no amount of chewing equals purée.

So I agree - put it through a blender, and you are good to go!

So, my question now is—-can you purée a hamburger? Just joking.

On our plan, we were allowed to choose soft foods and chew till puree. But no veggies, fruits, or red meat. Only canned or ground turkey, chicken or pork. Yogurts, ricotta, eggs and we could add Beans after 2 weeks.

I’m also able to eat things that you can purée by chewing really, really well! I was also told by the PA mushy casseroles would be okay too. My husband made chili with ground chicken tonight. Was absolutely delicious! He makes a great meatloaf and I was able to have that too. As the dietician stated, it’s not a solid piece of meat. I took it really slow and chewed well and it was wonderful!

Yes. I “cheated” all the way through the stages by starting the next stage earlier than recommended. My doctor even told me that some people do this and that as long as I tested the food with a small bite or two and I was fine I could eat what I tolerated. I even cheated the first night after surgery lol. dinner came (tea, Soup and jello) and I ate it all over the next few hours (10oz). The nurse freaked out but the surgical resident said it was fine as long as my stomach tolerated it.

So my advice is to take a small bite or two and see what you can tolerate.

I don’t advise going against your particular surgeon or dietitians recommendation, and I think that’s pretty risky to encourage others to do the same. Your surgeon has set forth a plan for your healing organs for a reason.

I used my nutri ninja to purée chicken salad, pinto Beans with taco seasoning, puréed cauliflower, etc. Just because you are on purée does not mean you cannot have real food. There are some great recipes out there worth trying that don’t involve going against doctors orders.

Just my two cents.

For me the Puree stage was the worst....I just pretty much stuck to the liquid diet/soups through that stage .

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
